I simply took a 90's Cavalier strut bar, all Z24's and the V6's reg models came with them. There very sturdy, thick square tubing and can be had for next to nothing.
I cut mine apart in the center and matched up some square tubing that the bar would slide into. I used one original hole on the bar, and weld on another one. Then cut the square tubing to fit, attached the bar, tack welded the tubing and finished welding on the bench. A quick spray of black paint and BAM, a cheap and solid strut bar.

Hey, that's a pretty good idea!
Those bars are available at GM for about $30 new unless you can find one in a yard. They came factory in the 90-94 Cavalier Z24s, and V6 convertibles.
I have one on my Beretta that I bought new, and I'm still a little pissed off that the bar came stock on a Cavalier, and wasn't even offered on the "Big Brother" Beretta.

That bar is going to be a lot wider, but could probably be cut to fit. Many of them are curved as well, while the Cavalier bar is straight.
I guess that's why we're in the fabrication section.:)

Nice simon. I was going to make one from scratch with square tubing, but this is definitely easier.
