Talking to my brother over the weekend he mentioned he'd be interested in getting another TD. He has always owned P-bodies (a '88 Sundance RS and the first post-thrifty owner of a CSXT), but he likes 4-door sedans. I mentioned a Lancer and he doesn't recall ever seeing one.

So, my questions:

What years were turbo lancers produced?
Were they common outside of the Lancer Shelby/Shelby Lancer?
How much would one expect to pay for a semi-decent LS or SL?

Lancers were made from 1985 through 1989. The turbo engine was also popular on the ES models, but I believe it was available across the line as an option. They seemed to sell pretty well in their earlier years, so I find a lot more 85-87 TI cars than newer TI's. The Chrysler Lebaron GTS is also almost identical except for a few trim differences.

As far as the market goes, they are getting harder to find, but I would say that $1500-$3500 should get you a decent TI Lancer ES, $2500-$4500 for a Lancer Shelby, and $3500 to $5500 for a Shelby Lancer. That's for a decent shape car, one with decent paint and a clean interior, and of course a good running stock engine. Outside of that prices can vary wildly.

Yeah, don't neglect the GTS!

I picked up mine (in decent shape) for $900 or so. Of course, it needed work, and has a helluva lot more into it now (sitting on jackstands too...ha), but you know that deal.

If he likes p-bodies go the 4 door, 250hp Shadow ES route!

If you wanted something different, you could try to find an 85-86 Lancer ES Turbo Sport package car or an 86 Lancer Pacifica.
