A buddy of mine is looking at building a twin turbo pontiac 400 for his 66 Lemans. We are talking about putting holsets on it since they are cheap and and can support the power. The only thing we aren't sure about is whick holsets to get. He is looking at making roughly 600hp at the crank running Edelbrock heads, custom efi, all on E85.

When I was messing with building a TT 460 in my 64 Galaxie several years back, I picked up the HX35W turbos for cheap. I believe they'd be fine for a Poncho 400. The HY turbos have a little smaller housings, and the HX40 are quite a bit bigger from what I gather.

I was kinda leaning towards a pair of the hx40 since the 400 is 6.6l and one of our 2.5s can spool a hx35 pretty good.

He is looking to having them spool around 3000 and not go past 6000 rpms. Not sure if he is going to go auto or 6 speed in the car but it is getting a 9 inch.

Frank or anyone got any suggestions? I don't know how to use the maps and would like to know which turbos meet up the best for the setup so we can get some and start making headers.

Come on, someone has to have an opinion. Frank, anyone?

This things sounds sick. Be sure to post pics of the buildup. Take a look at HE351 turbos. I'd like to hear some other opinions about this one. Sounds like you are gonna run a blow-through. I thought the 403 was the 6.6L not the 400.

The HE351 turbos are alot like the hy35. I just think a 35 would be too small.

some ford guys took a 351 and strapped two turbo coupe t3s on it and ran low 10s...hx35 will be enough

T3's are an extremely popular turbo with a small block, but it sounds like he wants something more. Being a 400 its already almost twice the displacement of a 2.2 dodge in each bank so hes going to want to flow more air as well thats why I would lean towards a large holset. After all the big ram only has a 5.9 and look at the turbo they use with those things...

I need to take a trip over to the guys house to take a look at how he plans on laying it out. Might end up with one large holset to make intercooler options better.
