ok so i've had my external gate on for acouple months now and it works great. as you can see in the pics dodge didn't think it was necessary to put a heat shield on the exhaust mani and turbo, and its right under the freakin intake mani too, hey lets get a red hot turbo and mani and put it right below the intake mani so we can heat back up all that air that was just intercooled duh. so anyway i cut up my integras exhaust heat shield i had laying around and was doing some mock up with 2 different pieces. anybody have any advice on what ive done so far?

Looks good. My buddy just put a Tial external gate on his turbo cavalier and the thing is sick. Sounds so disgusting. Kinda makes me want one.

Aaron (8valves) made mention of some sort of heat shield on his setup which made some incredible power, you may want to ask him.

Looks pretty good, infact makes me want to do put one on my baron aswell. I have a ford heat shield laying around, might work well.

Good luck.

Oh, by the way, what did you use to weld that pipe on the exhaust manifold?

What type pipe?

Looks slick.

I don't believe my car made any more power with it, but it drastically helped consistency. The intake took much much longer to get heat soaked, and it would never get as hot even after a full night of racing as it would before. Enough so much that I could rest my arm on the intake after a full night. I would've scarred my arm had I tried that before.

I wouldnt put the heatshield on the turbo but on the intake itself to continue to allow the turbo to get some airflow and not cook itself. or at least get some high temp duct and attach it to the sheild as it sits and put the other end in a high pressure area to ram air down over the turbo to keep it cool. :)

looks good though.

how does the external gate work? good?

thanks for the comments guys. it seemed to help out somewhat but not as much as i would've liked. intake still gets pretty hot. the shield is bolted to the top 2 bolts that hold on the turbo so the whole exhaust mani is still blasting heat all over the intake. i don't believe having a shield over it would cook it do to companys and people using those nice polished, shaped shields and people wrapping with header wrap and also those big turbo blanket looking things. the wastegate works awesome, really opens up the flow of the stock log mani and sounds awesome. definetly recommend the wastegate on mani mod.
