What kind of alchy should I be buying and what is it likely to cost? Should I go to an industrial place and get like a gallon or few? Just ordered my devils own kit and want to know what to fill er up with.

The most bang for the buck I have found to be regular old Isopropyl available at any drug store or wall Mart. They usually offer it in 71% or 90%.
I have also used Denatured alky from Lowes or Home Depot, comes in gallon cans, It is Ethanol with a small amount of Meth added. I can tell no differance between the two at the track.
Isopropyl is less corrosive and less volitile.
Isopropyl costs about $1.19 per quart.

What are your goals? What kind of setup do you have now?

I'm running a 2.5 .02 over at 17 psi on 91 octane with intercooler, 40%+ injectors, stage 5 comp, 2.5 inch exhaust with cutout at dp, forged wiseco's. Want to run around 23, more if safely possible. Will stay on 91 octane if need be.

I'm gonna try the rubbing alcohol, I'm pushing 20 psi with 87 octane in my S.C., but it still "rattles a bit". I use the rubbing alcohol for emissions testing, works every time! I'm running a progressive Devilsown kit with dual 150 cc/min injectors, works out to about a single M5 nozzle, might upgrade to 1 size larger.

PS... Hey Warren, funny avatar!

What injectors do the kits come with?

boost geek

The kit comes with an injector size of your choice, but it screws in from inside the intercooler pipe. I wanted some that screwed in externally. Here's a link from the ebay vendor. He shipped in good time, but he would not leave feedback...

Here's how they look like installed, remember, 20 psi, on 87 octane, and I'm running a stock T1 bottom end, no forged pistons.:eyebrows:

Damn nice. Can't wait for it. The shadow is just blowing people in town away. If I can get the hood fixed, and rims done I'll get it in a show this year. This guy in a prelude last night thought my car was from the states. No idea why he thought that. I beat him 3 for 3 in the rain on bald fronts. We were rolling at 50km in 3rd and i tromped on it and just spun/hydroed. Next one was on an offramp onto the highway with him in front then me passing. Next on from a light and he was 3-4 cars ahead by 2nd gear but i made i all up in 3rd gear and then BOV'ed his hiynee into 4th. I love the Shadow!

If you like playing in the rain, you outa try an OBX!:thumb:

Good, now that we are on the subject what is OBX? Is it like positrac? I thought it was something just for autos but I guess not?

No, it's easier to install on a 520 or 523 5 speed, but can also be done on an auto. I havent seen one break yet, and believe me, Simon tried his best.:eyebrows:
This is one of the best things I have done to my car, stock diffs suck...

so what the heck does it do?

boost geek

I said "no" just for auto's, it is a limited slip diff, when you spin, your spinning 2 tires. I can still spin in 4th gear in the rain, but the car will track straight, and on a dry road, NO torque steer. You will need a custom made spacer to run in an auto. You can get the diff either on ebay, or from Paul at Turbos Unleashed.

so what the heck does it do?

It is a torque biasing differential. It makes two black streaks on the road rather than just one.

Nice, next parts order I guess. Does it go on the pass side of the trans that sticks out towards the oil pan? Does the trans have to be pulled?

The axles go into it if that helps to describe where it is. It is best to pull the trans to install it, although you could drop the K frame and do it in the car if you were so inclined.

Meh, I guess I'll wait until next summer and get a high perf clutch and aluminum flywheel and obx

oYu should be able to find METH for decent prices if you look around your local area. Race Fuel places should have it. Probably have to bring your own container for some places.

I almost bought my kit tonight but Im calling in the morning to get the 100W pump from devils.

I would just try the washer mix to start with. Water has more anti-detonation ability than alky, so more alky is just more fuel. With your setup I don't think lack of fuel would be an issue until you go beyond about 30 psi. You are running 17 psi with that setup. I'm running 17 psi on stock fuel system, stock cal, no intercooler on a 2.5. All I've done besides letting it breathe a little better is added a devil's own progressive with a M10 nozzle squirting windshield washer fluid. And that's on 89 octane ethanol blend.:D

I just installed my DevilzOwn kit. Still have to wire it up then I'm set. Chance is great. He helped me out quite a bit.

I'll be starting off with winter blue washer fluid as it has a 70% water/30% methanol mixture to it, so I've been told. Start with the smallest injector and work your way up turning up one thing at a time.

Get it going yet? Kinda curious as how it came out.

Yah I got it wired up finally. Wasn't that hard actually. I started off with the 5gph jet and that worked great, but only for 20psi and a shat load of fuel. With the 7gph jet I was able to turn my fuel down and still run more boost. This made it a lot more drivable. Especially important for me driving 86 miles back and forth for school every day. I'm running only 21psi for now just because I don't have the HG or ARPs installed yet.

My setup is kind of similar. I am running a stock block, T3/T4 50 StgIII turbo, ported head 2.5" exhaust. At the moment i am running 15PSI, 14* base timing, 87 octane and denatured alcohol from Home depot. I was running 27PSI and denatured alcohol on 93 octane, no detonation. Why i'm not running that much boost now? Transmission started slipping on me.

Anyways, good luck.

My girlfriend's dad is a chemist and says he can get me pure form methanol. He did mention is it highly combustible and may not work for what I'm intending it for, would this work okay or not? Do I need "denatured" methanol? What is denatured? Is it just the addition of ethyl alcohol to methanol?

TurboBuggy
05-23-2007, 12:09 PM
"denatured" just means it has additives to make it poisonous to drink. Dunno why methanol would be denatured cause it already is poisonous. They have to denature ethanol or else everybody would just drink it because at 95% its basically everclear

Dave

So can I use pure form methanol?
