This may be in the wrong section, but, my question is, Where is the best location for a wide band 02 sensor? pre-turbo, after turbo, how far back?

most wideband manufacturers i've seen recommend this for the UEGO (universal exhaust gas oxygen) sensor:

-at least 18" from the exhaust port for non-turbo engines
-at least 36" from the exhaust port (obviously after the turbo)
-ahead of the catalytic convertor (mounting behind gives false lean readings)
-sensor to be tilted at least 10 degrees downward for condensation draining

but you should follow your instructions if you have them.

I'm not buying a packaged kit. I was going to use a wideband from a sprinter van and a volt meter. I figured I can get the information as for what votage reading equals what ratio. Do you think this will work ok? Or will a proper packaged kit be more accurate? Thanks for the location info.

You can't read a wideband with a voltmeter. They need a controller for the heater circuit. That's why their not cheap. Lot's of info here. http://wbo2.com
