im installing my crank into my 89 2.5L T1 and looking at my haynes manual for the proper torque specs but it says 30 plus 1/4 turn.

wtf 30 Plus?


so i set my torque wench to 30flbs and trun it 1/4 turn?

Yep, if you are using the factory bolts.

Don't use your torque wrench to do the 1/4 turn, you'll ruin it. Use a breaker bar or ratchet.

and the caps are in! thanks, i just needed validation, I just dont trust the haynes manual all that much.

ok im having trouble. i put it at 30ft lbs and took a ratchet and went to turn the bolts the 1/4 and it will go about an 1/8th of a turn. wtf? the last thing i need right now is a main bolt snapping off in the block. :(

Did you lube up the threads and under the bolt head?

Are you sure your not a little girl or have spaghetti arms? :o :p

Yes, you have to put oil on the thread and under the head otherwise your not getting an accurate reading and it will bind.

worked. i put a little assembly lube on them and i got it done. nailed the ---- out of my index finger on the crank but ill live. :thumb: thanks simon.

If you are using just a ratchet to do the +1/4 turn, you are going to really tax yourself. That is a lot of force to be applied with such a short lever.

long handle ratchet with a cheater pipe lol. cheater pipe slipped and i busted the finger. i just didnt know if i were to be worried.
