They have to be driven out. There is supposedly a tool for this, but I've never seen one.

so pretty much get someone to support the door as I take a hammer and pound them out?

Do I have to take off the fender?:yuck:

Yes.

It will be about 75% easier if you do.

ugh, I was fearing that I would have to remove the fenders, I have the pins and bushings but I guess I'll wait till spring to change them when I paint the car.

There was a discussion on the other site about a couple of tools. Heath bought the Eastwood tool and sent it back. I didn't buy anything yet.

Considering this tool from Steck Mfg, little pricey:

Hell...

Why not drive it to a body shop.. Have them remove it and drive home sans door??? LOL what a sight that would be!!

I got 4 good doors for my Horizon.. and after hearing what's involved in changing them out, I think i will pay a body guy to do it.

I have a kit where you put a pin through the center of the door pin, and use a rod to link to it to drift them out with, then you reverse the process to put the new ones in nice and gently :) Kinda hard to describe, lol.

Worked ok on a Chevette, not tried it on the GLHS yet ...

Quit being a bunch of girls. It ain't that bad. Try putting them back on with fresh paint. If you can do that, then you're the man. I'm the man. :)

Amen brother! I did it with my Omni, it's like doing a Charger twice.

I used a roll pin punch, a propane torch (when taking out the old ones)and an old 12" 3/8 socket extension, of course a hammer helps. Took me the better part of a weekend to get the doors back on the car, about double the amount of time that it took to put the engine and trans in.

I was just kidding. I'm not the man. Actually, my buddy Brian is the man for shooting that paint on my car. :thumb:

When we put the doors back on, we taped the heck out of everything on the door and in the jamb. It was scary at the time. :p

I know I'd have been afraid to take a hammer near that car after paint.

''''Much'''' easier when fenders are pulled--definitely do it before paint--have a helper handy, one who isn't afraid of the sight of blood and bashed fingers:D -{yours}--with fenders off, spray heck out of them with rust penatrant, use about a 1/4 by 6 inch drift punch, top pin driven down and new pin driven back up---bottom pin must be driven up or you will bend the door.---or cut the bottom pin off as you drive it down---the pins are just std roll pins available for like 35 cents each at a good hardware store--can't remember exact size but believe I bought 1/4 by 2 1/2-----door strikers will need to be checked and maybe readjusted when done----you'll have doors that work like new again:amen: --bobr19
