hey guys, was wondering if anyone has any experience running the S3 cam on a 2.5 with G head.

I would also like some comments on the 2.5L with G head.

heres the mods:
+40s on 3bar cal
2 piece intake w/52mm TB
ported big valve 445 G head
Taft S3 cam
TU header
S60 turbo or T3/T04B (I dont know specs of it yet, but will once i get car back)
TU 3" SV/DP, and all the way out

I will post up the details of the T3/T4 when I get them, but basically this top end will be going into my 2 door P body. I have no flow #s for head yet but its going to be benched when I pick it up.

Sooo.....as for that list of mods, would I be best to go with a 2.5L or 2.2L. The car will be a weekend driver/occasional track. I was opting to make a 2.2 high HP car, but that was for L body, now i have a few extra pounds!

It would be nice to have a decent port, and have that 2.5L making max HP around 6000RPM with the S3 cam and G head...or is that asking too much?

I know you'll love it, :thumb:

Stock cam on my 2.5L with a ported head, intake and log header would pull to 6000 cleanly.

sounds good to me!!!! I just need those lifter shims from ya, then I can let you know how shes goes!

this should be fun, only cars ive owned are basically stock 2.2L TII (3" turbo back, ported exhaust manni) that were in the heavyweight category

I like the "hot" S2 cam, aka S2 + over the S3 in general for the 2.5's but performance does vary.

Whats an S2+?

S2 with more lift, or very similar roller version comparable to the 505 cams out there.

6000 rpm peak HP point will likely require a better intake manifold. Even using an S3 cam, my car peaked at 5400 with a highly ported two piece. A switch to a larger plenum and shorter runner setup and then it would peakl at 6K rpms.

Be careful with down low power... my car made under 100 WHP until 3000 rpms on the S3.

The S3 is generally not the ideal candidate for the 2.5 motors.

Why is that?

'Cause the 2.5 is out of it's comfort zone just when the S-3 is coming into it's. I think a stock cam is good with a big turbo 2.5 because it helps the spool-up and makes the most of the mid range (which is where the 2.5 shines..) The S-1 may be a bit better even with it's higher lift but tight timing.

Tried the S1, its better around town but goes flat up top, I picked up like .5 sec switching the cam to a S2 and changing nothing else.

I tried an S2 on a G headed 2.2. You could feel an upper RPM difference but the change in low end was more than the gain up top so I switched back to stock turbo roller. The S3 I'm sure is way different so I'm not sure if that helped.
I am running a ported G head on a 2.5 right now in my shadow, and honestly I liked the G headed 2.2 better in my heavier daytona. Still had plenty on low end torque, and driveability just seemed better. I got a huge hybrid turbo on my 2.5 setup and there's still WAY too much low end power. I'd rather have more top end. I vote for a 2.2 with the G head, I LOVED it. And I'm sure the 2.2 will like the TAFT S3 cam more than a 2.5.

What is the lift on the S3 I am currently running the S2 in my charger with 2.2 but just switched to the GT30DBB so Im shopping for a new cam car just ran 91.4 7.7 1/8th mile its got a 2.2 with swirl head chambers bathtube style and 1mm over sized valves. I did just order 44m and 37.8 mill valves to do a new head. I was considering TurboVans Roller S60 cam but this S2+ maybe better. Who sells the Taft cams having trouble finding them again.

.476/.473 lift IIRC.

IMO simon's S60 cam would be better than the S2+. But the S3 is still one of the best to get.

This thread is a year and a half old. He's since gone 16v T3 head.

As Matt said, switched to a 2.5 TIII. I wanted to try the S3 and roller cams in my van but dropped a valve in my 2.5 and destroyed everything, :(
