I am building my own y-pipe for my 6.2 NA Diesel van. I am using Hummer headers which have a 2.5 inch outlet. I ordered a factory replacement Y-pipe for my van but it has 2 inch outlets, one side goes straight into the 3 inch pipe, the shorter one goes to 2 1/4 then the 3 inch. So I am building my own using 2.5 inch mandrel bends now do I just put the 2.5 inch into the 3 inch pipe-running single 3 inch, or do I make some type of collector?

I used one of these on a truck exhaust. Worked GREAT!

Making your own collector would be easy. I did two 2.5" into a single 3" for a few vans/trucks....

Most of the y pipes I've seen have just been one pipe with the side cut out of it and the other with a long angle cut(say 2x as long as the diameter) on it made to saddle the pipe with the side cut out of it. We build alot of y pipes and headers at work for the engines we use to power the vac units we build. I tried to find a pic but there web page is a little lacking. You can kinda see an example in the back of this pic.
