Wow, very impressive. What materials did you use, where did you get that nice thick flange?

I bought the fittings and the head flange from Ted at turboflanges.com , and the turbine housing flange he didn't have in the Chrysler type, so I made that one myself. The parts are all mild steel, fabbed and welded it in my garage. I'm going to price out having it coated once finished.

Looks great. Keep us updated on how well it works and if everything fits properly. Definitely looks like it should flow well!

They should flow nicely, that looks exactly like what I bought from Ted years ago, Steve Mercier is going to flow it for me, :thumb:

that is a very nice looking piece for something that you did yourself in your garage. Cost effective will probably be an extreme understatement.

Call Dan or Richard over at Swaintech Coatings. Tell them I sent you over (Sean Campbell). Get their "white lightning" coating. These guys are the best.

Is that a "heat barrier" type coating? I'm most concerned about keeping the heat away from the intake manifold as it is actually closer than the stock cast iron counterpart due to the fact it doesn't drop down from cylinders 1 & 2.

I know it fits perfectly already because I mocked it up and then welded the turbine flange in place - that is the stage you see it here in the pictures. I welded and dressed the fittings and head flange first, then bead blasted it to prep for the outlet flange.

As far as telling how well it works - that will be hard because I'm go to a 60 trim T3 with an A/R .63 turbine housing and your ported head all at the same time. Individual results will be will be lost in the mix. I ran 215WHP / 280 WTQ last year on a stock head and stock TII Garrett with a lightly ported cast exhaust manifold.

Thank you!

Cost effective - yes, an Alabama Man one sold on eBay a short time ago for $255 + ship. I thought I could do better so I set out and did this one - I am surprized however, how much time I have into it though. Prolly could do another one in less time - isn't that always the way?

Yea. Its a ceramic type coating. I just had my header coated and it looks like it is pretty durable. Ive had Jet-Hot coated headers in the past and they would pit and rust after a few years. The Swaintech stuff looks much thicker and tougher. Good stuff.

I run the coated header and then a heat shield between the intake and exhaust man.

I just went to the site and wow thats would be a cheap thing to build,Much beter than a ported stocker in price.

When that Simon guy gets around to shipping it!

I will flowtest a stocker, FM ported stocker, ABM header, and the Typert.

Looks really good. I put on a similiar style and had good gains.

This is the one my friend did, that I have on my Daytona.

looks nice!! did u have any previous TIG welding experience?? those welds look pretty decent!

looks nicer than the TU one I have here that I purchased used....but Im thinking its an earlier one and im sure they have improved quality! I didnt get the oil extension line so ill have to get one or fab one up...

should flow nice tho! mines just been sittin around for a while just waiting to get into a car, and when it does im sure ill be asking myself why i never bothered to use it......well until the day comes lol

I have the FM ported stocker w/EGT on my car now, and it really helps that exhaust flow as compared to a stock mani.

Those are MIG welds - I wish I had a TIG welder :eyebrows: too $$ for me.

As for those of you that wanted me to make more, I haven't forgotten - just don't have any spare time at the moment. I have been thinking that I will order enough parts to make a couple and see exactly how long it takes - now that I've made one it should go easier.

It looks cleaner around the turbo flange than Andy's.

They are 1 1/2" steam fitter's butt weld fittings that actually measure 1.66 ID. IMHO you couldn't use anything bigger, I already have to make minor "adjustments" to the intake manifod at a couple of the bolt locations.

Thanks! I took the time to weld/grind the inside between the pipe and turbo flange to make it a smooth transition. Alot more work but hopefully it will pay off. I can't wait to get back to the dyno this year!

this looks really nice can;t wait to hear some dyno numbers......Im really thinking about building one of these my self....the question i have is do these type of home built log style headers flow better then a well ported turbo exhaust manifold. because right now im up in the air, either built one like this or spend some time and port my exhaust manifold.

i think you would have an extremely hard time trying to get a stocker ported enough to come even close to a log header of this nature.
