View Full Version : Thoughts on compression test?

I was unpacking some crap out in the garage and ran across my compression tester. Since I'd never run a compression test on the Sundance, I thought I'd give it a go.
This is a bone stock '89 2.5. As far as I know, pistons, rings, and maybe even the headgasket are all original 130,000 mile parts.

Compression test was done warm with the throttle held WFO.
Results were: 145, 155, 145, 150
Any thoughts?
Thanks,

Pretty good numbers.

Yeah, numbers look good to me. Seems like a healthy motor.

Nice! Thanks guys!

I've been trying to get my adj. zener and nozzle/solenoid extra injector setup dialed in. In the process I've gone lean a time or 2 at 18-20 psi and had myself half convinced I'd hurt a piston in the process. After running the compression test, I'm certain it was just paranoia but it sure did seem to pop and miss at idle alot more than usual.:o

Definately a pleasant surprise considering the mileage and going lean under boost a couple times. I honestly expected to see at least 1 cylinder down around 90-100 and be pulling the head and oil pan right now.
