A Snap-On pick set does wonders but I always had a hard time getting those stupid things off also. BE PATIENT:D

Oh, just give up and ship me the rods with the pistons. :D

A pick set will do wonders.

the tool some of you refering too is called a "snap ring" tool....

im pretty sure that stock motors have snap rings to hold piston to wrist pin???.....but the spirolocks dont have the lil tiny hole like the snap rings do...looks like a biiiiatch!!!

yeah, a pick or very small screwdriver is the trick.

Spirolocks are similar to snap rings in their job function, but completely different in the way they do it. No little tabs. They look like a key ring, more or less.

Last set I did, I used a really small flat blade screwdriver and a set of needlenose pliers.
I pulled them standing in the shower with the shower door closed and the drain covered. If you don't do it in a confined space, they'll go flying and vanish.:p

I was referring to a "spiral lock removal tool"
Yes they make one:

Allstar "Lockbuster" quickly and easily removes spiral locks from full floating pistons without worry of damaging wrist pin holes or lock ring grooves. Head is made of quality steel. "Lockbuster" Spiral Locks are completely redesigned and require no modifications for use with the "Lockbuster" tool.http://www.allstarperformance.com/product.htm?prod=101

I have used this tool before.
But it most likely won't work because the head is made for a .927 pin.
I guess it could be modified.
Powerhouse products sells them.

Interesting Mike. Well I will grind down a pick and try again today. If not, I guess he gets the rods and he can take them out, :(
