Unable to locate a suitable first vehicle for my daughter, I decided to put a used tranny in my old mini. First, I thought I'd do a fluid flush and see what happened.

I pulled the lines off of the radiator and determined which one is the pressure line. I had my son hold it in a bucket while I started the van. The most disgusting looking, foul stuff came out. A little thicker than tranny fluid, whitish/brown looking. Didn't smell burnt, though.

I poured in three gallons of fresh fluid while letting the tranny pump into the bucket. By this point it looked like good fluid coming out.

Then I dropped the pan and installed a new filter. This had never been done as the original RTV was still on the tranny pan. The filter was just as disgusting as what came out of the tranny.

Put everything back together and filled it up with fresh fluid. It now shifts like a champ!! Whoo hooo!

Now I just gotta round up four decent tires for the van and it should be all set for her.

Sweet. Are you sure she wont hate driving an old minivan? LOL, first car I drove was a 90 Dodge Caravan, I loved it. Good car to learn in, sit up high, lots of windows.

She's been driving my wife's '99 caravan all week. She's used to it, but the wifey don't like not having her vehicle!!

Yeah, I'm VERY surprised. With the symptoms it had, I was prepared to go pick up a rebuilt tranny and put in it.

We will have to see how long it lasts!!

now that you have it fixed and running and there is no snow, what is the 10th digit of your VIN?

As soon as the daughter gets home from work, I'll look at it and post it!!

ha ha. forgot to post.

The tenth digit in the VIN is an L

The date of manufacture is 11-89

The title and registration say 1989.

Obviously the title and registration are WRONG.

HA!!! I was right and you wanted to argue with me :eyebrows: .... see I knew for fact the 3.3 was never ever offered in 1989. : it would probably be a good idea to straighten out the registration.

No, I didn't mean to argue with you. In fact I stated early on that the title was probably wrong based on you saying the 3.3 was not offered in '89.

I do thank you for pointing this out. I might check into correcting the registration. And, I also know now that the turbo wiring harness and SMEC I had bought for it is useless to me.

Guess I'll have to dig that out and peddle it.

that 3.3 90 model is a pretty rare bird because of the 3.3/body style mix, by far most of those body style were 3.0 i think. why does the 89-90 difference make the harness useless to you?

At one point when the van was sitting, I thought about putting a 2.5 turbo motor and a A413 in it. I bought a SMEC van underhood harness. I was told it would be a bolt in for an '89 but it would take considerable re-wiring for a 1990.

Just going by what I was told - I have never looked at the bulkhead print outs to determine if this is true or not.

amazing what happens when you change the 18 year old factory fluid. :)

just like you were told your van was a 1989 and insisted that it was. before you make a statement get the facts first, check wire harnesses before condeming incompatability.

*sigh*

Show me where I insisted my van was an '89

If you read the above post I clearly stated that this is what I was told and that I hadn't verified it myself.

WTH are you riding my --- about this ---- anyway?

Show me where I stated a f'n fact and said "I KNOW this is true".

You know what? You ain't worth my time. I'm done with this post.

i have a 1990 van 3.0L harness in a 88 k car... its only 2 pins for the windshield wiper motor that are different. now 89 harness in a 90 van is hard cause of the dash communications.

[Starsky and Hutch] Do IT! [/Starsky and Hutch]

Mike (22mopar), let's let this one die. There is no sense in bugging Anonymous anymore over this issue, he thought his van was 89, and he had a title that said it was, it's a mistake anyone could make. You were right in the long run and he may not be an expert on V6 minivan history, but he's proven to be a valued member of this site and doesn't deserve to be poked at over one incorrect statement.

You did manage to push my buttons there. I'm usually a pretty laid back guy. Sorry to have gotten upset.

I still stand by my statement made on Feb. 16

I can only presume that the tilte is incorrect. If they didn't make the 3.3 in 1989, then it isn't a 1989.

I apologize for getting worked up over such a silly issue.
