Just curious as to which flows better. I am going 3 inch regardless due to cost, I have lots of 3 inch pipe, 3 inch Super40 muffler and found a mandrel bent 3 inch tailpipe for free, outside in a wrecked truck, :thumb:
area of a circle is Pi times (radius squared) so 2 2.5" pipe comes out to 9.8 square inches and one 3 inch = 7 square inches.
so dual 2.5 flows about 25% more, but as you already say its a practicality thing :)
there is a lot more to flow than pipe area. Temperature, volume, and velocity also play a big part.

interesting guys, thanks.
Ok my math is weak, Pi x radius squared is 3.14 x (2.5x2.5)=19.62?????????
2.5 = diameter
r = d/2 = 2.5 / 2 = 1.25
:)
oh, and is this a turbo diesel??????

6.2's didn't get turbo's, the 6.5's are turboed from the factory. Because I have a van, its nearly impossible to turbo it and again, cost is a factor so its not getting turboed.

Well I worked out the flow
2 inch duals-6.28 this is stock with crap mufflers.
2 1/4 duals-8.0
2 1/2 duals-9.8
3 inch single is 7.
Crap, now the wheels are turning, :(

hey simon will you turbo it?
j/k
I assumes that engine is a V? Just generally speaking I would run a 2.5" with an H pipe

Yep, V8. Trouble is, duals cost money, looking at 2 batches of mandrel bent elbows, 2 mufflers, 2 sets of 2.5 inch pipe etc. I have all the 3 inch stuff I need plus a Super40 3 inch muffler, :thumb:

just was under a grand cherokee srt8, had true duals with a h pipe, next day was under a srt10 ram, had a Y pipe into a big muff then dual out muffler with 2.5" tail pipes

Dual 5"!!! Oh wait that's what I want on my turbo caravan.

yeh but for the truck we're talking about, working our brains any harder would cost more than the truck is worth. :P jk

Diesels as we all know need very little restriction so a free flowing exhaust pays big. Just because I am broke and need to pay for racing, etc, just going 3 inch. If it doesn't work, so be it.
