I'd like to put my T2 top end on my 85 block, but it doesn't have reliefs for the valves. Am I going to run in to problems with interference or no?

I'm planning on doing that to my omni and it's N/A, with flat pistons. The heads are the same as far as I know. If this is a problem, someone had better chime in quick hehe.

I think it will work, but would rather avoid the carnage if it doesn't...

As you know, the valve reliefs are in the swirl pistons for a reason. Depending on factors. Cam lift, deck being milled, head being milled, head gasket thickness, Do you want the motor to remain a non interference motor (if belt breaks)? Since the swirl head is like 6cc smaller than g-head your compression will also be about a half point higher. More so if the deck and head have been milled.

Check for interference. Don't just cross your fingers!!! This is easy to check while the motor is apart. My bet is that valves will hit pistons at some point.

Your ECU will also need to be re-programed for the swirl head and raised compression ratio (if using G-head electronics). Fuel isn't getting any better these days, and going with higher than stock compression IMO, is a mistake. If it were me, I would stick with the g-head as they flow better out of the box than the swirl anyway

So I would be running about 9:1 compression. Yikes. Maybe I'll just swap manifolds over instead...

i put an 89 t2 head on an 84 turbo block. it worked fine

As long as the belt doesn't snap or skip too many teeth it will work. But, like mentioned before compression will be over 9:1, not good on pump gas turbo dodge's.

Check out the "Edging" technique:

This will remove material from the chamber bringing the CCs down to G range. It also improves breathing in and out of the valves for better overall flow, reduces detonation tendencies, and makes more power at a given boost level by applying the force of the expanding charge more evenly across the face of the piston.
