There has been an ongoing discussion on the Team Omni Mailing List about the possible reproduction of the factory 2.2L supercharger setup.

Here is a blurb about it:

2.2 supercharger to return? (March 07 2007, 04 PM)

The original manufacturer of the Mopar Performance 2.2 liter engine supercharger - for carbureted 2.2s - was recently purchased by Atkins Rotary, which is considering reissuing the component if they can get 15 buyers. Serious buyers should contact Andy at 253-588-2350.

So anyone interesting in purchasing a new supercharger for their 2.2 better get on board!!!!!!

I remember seeing that posted somewhere. I would almost be tempted to buy one in case I ever find a carbed car to buy.

wow, i'd buy the supercharger... and then find the car to go with it!!! sure, i like my turbo and all... but to have 2 different types of forced induction Omni's.... i'd be in heaven!!

the purchase price for the complete kit (manifold, blower, pulley etc) would be approx $2300, if they can get 15 people together, it's a go (or so I hear)

Heh, I've got a carb'd car I'd sell to someone who wants to buy a supercharger. :eyebrows:

year/make/model/pics/condition/ does it run? what does it need?

i seriously hate you right now... if didn't have 5 cars currently... i'd be on my way. but honestly, answer the above stuff quickly when you have time via PM, my friend is looking for a project.

and if i only knew if that supercharger will be built. that would be one fun car!

anyone have any specs on a supercharged Omni??

:p well I keep laughing because it's an 85 GLH with the 2.2HO, but the body is in ugly shape. The car was rolled once so there are dents and a couple small cave ins, bumper is bent, etc...

It does run, in fact I drive it to work every day and piss off a lot of expensive cars with how quick it is. Recently converted the top end to a machined 85 turbo G head with rollers and a Taft S1, new Carb and new O2.

It needs the attention of someone who likes body work, and right now it needs a clutch and brakes, but I'm gonna keep driving it most likely so it will be getting those probably. I have a set of front MP rally springs for it but they're not on it yet, not sure when or if I'll get them on. Basically, great car for a fun project, the wrong car for a pretty project.

I read a small blip on a site that's no longer around about the supercharged 2.2s.

Apparantly they were like driving a 300hp S60 car minus the lag.

well, i tell you what... if that kit goes into production and is for sale readily, at that price or below... you look me up and i'll probably end up buying that car off ya. i get like that.

i can do body work, but who needs a pretty car??? as long as it's fast and handles good. a shell can be found at a later date i suppose.

That doesn't sound half bad. I would like to drive the car more as it's fun as hell and a good daily driver, but I don't want to drive it forever as it's an 85 omni. I would love to sell it to someone who will do something with it that is not parting out. Even a rally car to beat around in beats losing a GLH in my eyes. As the car is now I have absolutely no doubts that it would drive across the country and back.

well, take care of it as it seems you already are... and if there's money in my pocket when the time comes... i may just be needing a room to stay for a night up there.

Better make it two - way too much rice to burn for just one night here. If you're really serious send me a PM. I'll try to 'nicen' it up a bit without hurting my wallet much at all.

If I had the money, I'd get one for sure. I'd build a 2.5 stroker motor to go with it, maybe run megasquirt or something. That would be awesome in a Minivan, :bounce2: :partywoot:

it doesnt take much to convert a carbed system to simple mpi with megasquirt but i DO kinda think the beauty of a kit is in things working the way they come and not after a bunch of changes. of course anyone would want to check the tune on the carb before blasting down the 1/4, but modifying the kit.. i have a hard time seeing myself wanting to change much about that kit before i wanted to change EVERYTHING, and then theres no point in the kit..

also, the 300hp s60 thing.. weren't these supercharger kits only rated at 140hp the way they come? im sure it could support more but the blower still looks fairly tiny.

if i could find a used one of these kits really cheap id use it, but for 2300 bucks.. id probly buy a new Rotrex and try and do something with that :)

I remember checking out Atkins rotary when I had my 2nd gen RX7. They do phenomenal work and are quite meticulous. I could see this deal working out pretty well if theres enough interest. 2300 isn't bad at all for a supercharger kit, although I wouldn't be the one throwing down the cash for one right now unless of course I had bought one of the carbed shelby chargers I ran across when I was younger. Darn thing too the bank approved me and I went to the lot the next day and they had sold it. doh.

$2300 is alot to spend on a modification to a carburated car to make it ALMOST as powerful as a stock T1 car.

i agree but this is more of a heart decision than head decision just as the td itself is. i wonder what atkins has in store for them?

i agree. more heart than head on that one. i think it'd just be cool to do it and have one. pretty rare. besides, that $2300 is a LOT cheaper than the $5-$6k to supercharge my IS300!! and i really want a supercharged car. having 3 turbo cars is cool and all, but i want a supercharged toy too!

I drove by a Boss mustang in my GLH today....he had traction issues and was only faster than me at highway speeds. It was cute.
