what is actually going bad the bearings which in turn kills the shaft??

from what i have seen its the high tension of the timing belt that puts the extra pressure so here is the question if your running a 8 v motor are there any worries?

The remans are fine, thats all you can get. What happens is you have to inspect the old shaft for wear, as in the gear having pitting etc, if you notice that the teeth are wearing down, the shaft has to be discarded. As long as the shaft teeth ARE NOT worn down past the hardness, you won't have an issue. Wallace can cryo treat them for added strength,

how can you tell if its past the hardness? can you see it ?

You can see the wear, its easy to see if you look at a good shaft. Basically it looks like the oil pump gear has eaten into the intermediate shaft gear. If in doubt, take good pics and post. Also, if you can catch your nail on it, its no good.
