My story:
I purchased the car from 5sp. mini in September? anyways it was a souther car before he purchased it and had practically no rust. It ran strong! Well after running it for acouple weeks the HG blew not his fault no mine just sh!t happens you know. So I rebuild the top end. The paint on the car wasn't good at all. Had the classic Mopar peel. I then sanded it all down and got it ready for paint. The paint isnt show car quality or anything but hey I am a 16 year old kid that was doing by myself due to my dad just having shoulder surgery. Anyways yeah there are imperfections but if someone wanted to point them out then I would more the be welcome to point out my fist on their face. HAHA! Anyways here are some before, after, and progression pics. Hope you like. The car was kinda dirty due to all the snow and salt and ---- on the roads. Today was the first day we have had sun in a long time.

The engine is running but not up to par. I have to sort out that mess this weekend. The wheels are 17" Enkei Rf-1's. I also have a set of 16" CS pumpers that I ran during the winter. Some mods are: Greddy Type S BOV, 2nd gen Probe GT front bucket seats(I had them left over from my other car), A-piller A/F gauge and Boost gauge, boosting 12lbs(well I will be once I get the motor timing sorted out), I changed most of the red accents to silver because I though they looked better. The red and blue never really sat well with me too much clash.

It looks cooler when I have my stock wheels on it because they are 225's vs the tires on my 17's that are 215's.

Jasmeleg08

They are Enkei RF-1's. They weigh somewhere around 19lbs a wheel. Thanks for some more feedback.

Dev. yours doesn't look that bad. Your hood just looks bad. All you have to do is sand it down till is stops flaking away then scuff the rest. I just used 220 grit then wet sanded it with 600 and it is smooth. I mean there imperfections in it but that is just because I am not a trained body man. I have done body work before but never without my dad there. Me being very ADD I tend to forget spots or just rush through stuff and do it haflassed and I don't mean to thats just how it works out. You don't see it in the pictures but on the passenger's side pillar there is some really bad orange peal. I took it back to Maco and had them look at it. I will be taking it back in in 2 weeks and they are going to redo that whole side from side molding to the top of the car.

Sanding the bad spots and scuffing the rest is a good way to make the car look good for 6 months, a year, 2 years, or 5. Who knows really. But the fact is, the factory paint doesn't last. If it hasn't peeled yet, it will. Either do it super cheap with the scuff and spray and enjoy it while it lasts, or do it right. Strip the car and redo it all. Have it last you 15-20 years...

Jasmeleg08

Yes your right about if you want it to last 15-20 years but if I get 3-4 years out of it I will be very happy. Man I can't even think 3 years from now. And yes ok if I spent all the time to strip the car down then get it all done right I would have never got it done. I don't have that kind of time nor effort do so such a thing. Most of it was done to raw metal exept for the doors which I took down till it stopped cracking off. The primer they used in the plastic peaces held up fine.

Looks good, :thumb:. As long as it looks better than it did when you started with it, you're golden.

NICE! I have been thinking about doing my car with white stripes and white letters.. nice to see what it looks like(roughly). Very sharp imo. :) I never cared for the red stripe either. Need to get that stock exhaust off man. ;) Unless you like quiet.. you'll never miss it.

Jasmeleg08

Yeah next will be exhaust. Side exit 2.5 glass pack no cat nice and loud. Just right now my car isn't running there are many gremlins in it so I have to sort them out. I don't want to go modding before I fix them first. Thanks for the complements though. Hopefully soon I can get some videos.

Don't use spray can's unless you dont have the $ for a better job. Spray can's are a HUGE! Pain! especially over large areas .. Been there.. :(

Don't use Spray cans. It will never turn out good. Spend the money and get a spray gun. I have a small gravity feed gun I use for like little stuff. It wasn't that much and it looks 10x better then spray paint.

WickedShelby88

Sounds like your know your stuff with paint guns and such. I hung around a good friend of mine a lot who did body work for years. He had some similar opinions. He used gravity feed for many things though. So you went base clear right. What kind of base and clear did you use? There are many different kinds. Im just curious what you used.

Jasmeleg08
04-15-2007, 10:11 PM
No actually I went single stage with integrated clear. I had done it on my previous car and it held up just fine. I never really build show cars so I figured I would save a few bucks. I went with Stock Daytona Blue with just alittle less red tint. It blends good with the stock stuff but just isn't as purple. I didn't really like the purple appeal the stock had so I had less red in it thus bringing out the blue more.

WickedShelby88

Sounds like a plan when I paint mine. I may do that integrated clear paint. I've never really heard of it, but I don't do body work myself. You ever get out to Lima, OH much? Theres a guy I sold a SMEC for his 88 Shelby Z thats runs around in that area. By the way are you gonna take your car to SDAC since you will be extremely close?
