We are all here form some car that started it all. What was you first TM or the TM that got you hooked on them?
This was mine, it was my first car and the car that got me hooked on TM's. It's a 1984 chrysler laser, it was kind of a pile when I first got it, but my dad helped me in making it a nice car. I wish I would have never sold it and would like to find another.

Show us or tell us about the car that did it for you!

Wow, small world! lol Mine was also a 1984 Chrysler Laser. My buddy had a brand new one and it hauled major booty! That car was so quick and at the time I was in the 10th grade and used to drive it every once in a while.

Mine was the 1984 Daytona turbo that I have. My dad's friend had me put the MP computer in it and then told me to take it for a spin. It was 1985 and I was only 15 at the time and did not have a license. I took it for a spin anyway.:)

22 years later that car is sitting in my garage now.

My first was an 85 S/C. I was 16 or 17 years old and bought it as a winter rat. The guy selling it thought it had a bad motor, but upon closer inspection the front crank pulley was loose and it sounded like a knock. I tightened up the bolts and drove it all over the place. I think I paid 350 bucks for it. I was hooked from there though. :thumb:

It was an '85 Shelby Charger that did it for me. My best friend owned it. It was dealer maintained (his Dad works at a Dodge dealer), dealer repainted (Blue/Silver). Very clean car. I had the opportunity to buy it in '98, but my first child was on the way so I bought a '93 Saturn SL2 instead. He kept it for another year, then sold it to some fool at the dealer. Two weeks later it was totaled :(

My first Dodge was a 89 Spirit 2.5 n/a. Then I found Gus on line. When the spirit had to go for more family room, it was naturaly a turbo mini that replaced it. Been hooked since, and have been suffering from boost withdrawal for the last year. Hopefully this spring...

Thats crazy! After I sold my laser and bought my spirit, that is when I found Gus's site. His site is the reason and way I got started on upgrading my spirit. He was my idol. Back in 1998 I thought I was bad --- for putting on a front mount intercooler on my car, and it was all thanks to him.

My first was my Uncle's 86 Turbo Z (86 TI auto), black with red pinstripe, grey cloth interior, only options were rear wiper/rear defrost. At the time I wanted a 3rd gen z28, but they were too expensive (I was 15) So my dad gave me the idea to look at buying my uncles daytona, hey it kinda looked like a camaro...........

My 1985 Shelby Charger is the one for me. I've loved them ever since I saw them in the dealership brochures. I just had to wait until 1995 to get one.

The one that got me hooked was my brothers friend Stephan's 1987 Daytona Shelby Z. This is back when I thought my bro's lightly modified '96 Mustang GT was fast. That was, until I was riding with Stephan and we thoroughly whipped the mustang while running up to a cool 155mph!

I then bought a '91 Shelby Daytona, owned it for like a week and then grenaded the engine when the oil drain plug popped out (from previous owners screw up) and drained all the oil when I was doing about 130mph. I then sold the car to my brother who fixed it up real nice and sold it to Brummy (he's on TD, not sure about here).

I've had a few more since then :thumb:

This is what got me into TM's... my 82 Dodge Rampage. It started off as a 2.2L Carburated automatic, and now it's a TII 5 speed.

This picture is from 4 years ago. It looked alot worse then that when i first got it. It had a homemade canope on it, as well as the stock rusty rims.

The one that did it to me was the same 86 Daytona turbo Z C/S that I still have now. Bought it with the original drivetrain but cracked head & my father & I worked on it. That was back in 1990 or so, and I gave $750 for it (payoff at the credit union) and I've had it ever since. It didn't get treated too nice when I was younger. I busted many axles, a couple turbos, and finally replaced the engine a few years later. Not long afterwards the tranny went & the car was parked in the shed till June 2005. Now it's running a complete low mile 84 drivetrain while I slowly gather parts for a new engine & T2 conversion.

Well seeing as how I'm almost 19 my first TM is still my first and only car. Started out as a totaled 4 door N/A shadow with a decent body and good interior. Head cracked a few months in and learned to wrench by replacing it. Ended up doing another head on my ex-gf's shadow convert. Wanted more speed and read online about turbo ones that gave an extra 50% hp over my stock N/A. Found some guys around town that pissed around with TM's for many years, read stuff online, got on forums and WHAM, 2.2L T1 turbo went in. Then BANG, auto trans fried, so on a weekend put in the A520. Soon to be puttin in new 2.5L T03 turboed motor with upgrade comp, fuel delivery, moly plate for trans, probly 22psi boost. Wish me luck.

The TM that got me hooked wasn't even my car. In fact I'd never even seen it in person.
That was Gary Donovan's red Daytona. If I were to say Gary's Daytona cast the line, then it would have to be my '89 CS that set the hook. I've been out of TM's a couple times since then, but they always keep reeling me back in.:)

my mom bought a brand new blue/silver shelby charger in 85, man that thing was fun. she enjoyed beating her bosses built up 80ish camaro, with me in the pass seat:thumb: wicked fast for an 11 year old. also her co-worker had an 85 daytona turbo, i could not get over watching the boost gauge rise as i was set back in the seat, what a feeling:). so i guess it was 2 cars lol. later in life i was playing with sb chevys and camaro's like i was brought up on, till i started leaning toward putting a v-8 in my s-10...... when i saw my total in parts, labor ect., i got a little discouraged. then i found a shelby charger in the local paper for 1000$....SOLD! after it blew up (previous owner had it at 14psi w/too much timing) i found an 89 shelby tona on e-bay all modded up, the rest is history.
just cant get enough of these cars!

My first "hook" was, I was walking to work and heard a car ripping 3 gears from a stop light. I turned around and see this black 4 door Omni. I think it was a GLHS. I've wanted on ever since.
Most recently I saw a garnet/silver Charger and started doing research on turbo mopars. I ended up with a stinker of an 88 Shelby Z. Junked that one. Now I have a homemade turbo van, and a 1989 Daytona Shelby.

I was looking through "The Car Lounge" on www.vwvortex.com and I came across a build up about a Turbo Mini(~2002). Ever since I read through that I have been hooked. Link to said build up (http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?id=1355864)(The Mini is currently owned by a board member The S is Silent).

I finally got myself to a point in my life where I could afford my own car with my own money and a TM is what I went after. I found a 90 Daytona VNT and drove 7+ hrs to pick it up. That car didn't work out and I drove 7+ hrs back in the rental, but after that 10 minute test drive I was really hooked! Next thing I know I found my current car 30 minutes from where I live in beautiful shape and for a great price.

The rest is history :)

86 Plymouth Turismo 2.2 HO. Same 110hp carb engine that the GLH and Shelby Chargers got. I loved that car, it just needed more power :-) It was kind of fun to be able to wind out 1st, 2nd and 3rd and still only be doing 55mph. It was my first car. I traded it in on an 89 Daytona Shelby in 1993 and have been hooked on the turbos ever since. I just recently got my GLHS on the road, the first L-body I've owned since the Turismo and it is really a flashback for me, I love it. I wouldn't mind having another Turismo 2.2 if I could find one, they all seem to be dead at this point even though they made some 4300 or so of them in 86.

My TM experience started with a 93 N/A 2.2 5-speed Sundance. I alway heard about turbo models and decided to do some research. That is how I stumbled across thedodgegarage, and Gus's site. The hunt was on for a turbo car. I then found a CLEAN 87 Shelby Z at a local car lot. TII 5-speed all stock and very nice. Bright red. It ran good, but would buck and cut out under boost. Dealership wanted to get rid of it and it came with an 88 TII Shelby Z with 235K miles on it that ran like crap. Bought the pair for a song, fixed the vacuum lines on the 87 and sold it for more than what I paid for the pair. Did a quick inspection on the 88 and found the ground missing on the back of the intake. That car ripped for having 235K on it even with a slipping clutch. Sold that one too. Money talks. In hind sight, I should have kept one of them. I made up for it by turbo charging a 3cyl Geo Metro (don't laugh it was a lot of fun!). But started a family, and needed something bigger. My 97 Escort isn't cutting it for me. I need boost. Now I am looking for a 4-door TM.

Mine was a combination of two cars - bought and Omni 024 some time ago with an auto/1.6L - the car was fun even though powerless. Ten years ago, a buddy from work bought an '86 GLH and let me drive it. What got me was the same interior (I was already used to it) with power :eyebrows:

I bought my SL 2 months later, and just recently picked up an L-body ('85 GLH) of my very own :amen:

I saw when I was a very small kid (2 years old) a commercial or something for the LeBaron Turbo GTC coupe in late 88. Red car, with the black lace rims, and the gray leather interior... I wanted one since then. 18 years after that and many many different cars, I finally got the one I wanted since it was brand new. :)

I've been an old school Mopar guy since back in the early '80's. But I'd always liked the TD's, I just wanted to wait for sale prices to come down to a point where I could experiment with them and not break the bank if it got blown up.

So I came across Gary D's website in '99 or so, and read through it completely, like three times. So...knowing what performance mods could be made I finally had the itch to go ahead and buy a TD, but which one????

I happened to come across a bone stock '87 CSX #726 locally that had been a Southern car it's whole life. Aside from faded paint this thing was in great shape. I proceeded to unplug the wastegate and drove it that way! Pulled like a big block V8, at that point the TD hook was set.

Still have the CSX, although it needs some motor and electrical work now. I also bought into the TIII affliction with an IROC R/T and Spirit R/T!

I was driving an 1989 Daytona ES non turbo with an automatic. While driving one day I noticed a red Daytona setting in a yard with a for sale sign on it.
My daughter was looking for a car at this time, so I took her to see it. As I walked around the car I noticed it had a 5 speed and Shelby Z decals above the door handles. I looked at my daughter and said, Tonya you don't want this car. She said why not dad and I said because I do! This was in 2000. The car has been named "2nd Childhood". This car gets the blame for my addiction. This car will never be sold...it makes me a kid again!

Well, believe it or not it wasn't a TD that made me want one. When I was 17 I was with a buddy in an 89 Z-28(5.7 TPI) and we raced against a GN. The GN blew our doors off. I had no idea what the hell it was. I stopped and asked the guy what he had, who was in his 50's by the way. He said it was a turbo V6. I was like "huh"? WTF, a V6 kicked the a$$ of my buddies hopped up Z? No way... He said it had a "turbo" so I said hmmm... then my bro got an 86 turbo Z. it was bonestock auto and "so-so" fast at best. Then years later I got my GN for me. So, keeping in the spirit of "turbo's" I wanted a DD that was good on gas, fairly quick, and cheap. Enter, (drum-roll)the TD .... an 88 Pacifica.. So, here's my GN compromise. :D

My first experience with a TD was back when I was probably 7 or 8 years old. My uncle owns a used car dealership up north and he had come back down my way to an auction and bought a couple of cars. Since he wasn't able to take them all back to his dealership on his own, my dad volunteered to help him out. I can distinctly remember it being a blue Daytona with grey ground effects and a sunroof! I thought it was the coolest car in the world at the time haha.

Now moving on to when I was 13, I was checking out the pictures in one of my dad's Chrysler Chronicle books. I happened to come across a picture of an '86 black/silver Shelby Charger. I immediately fell in love with the Shelby Chargers and by 14 I had bought my first junker SC :thumb:

But what really got me into messing around with my TD's are the stories and information shared with me from my good friend Dennis. Dennis is a local guy and is known by most as "Turbo Denny". When I first got my license and was driving my '90 Daytona Shelby, my dad and some of the guys from Frank's (Local Chrysler garage where I'm friends w/all the guys there) told me I should take a cruise to see Denny and show him the car. Well I finally did get out there and he was just a wealth of information and had tons of great stories about his old Spirit R/T, his old T2 Acclaim, his Shelby Lancer #79 (still had it at the time), and his old Omni GLH-T.

To make a long story short, he told me plenty of stories and showed me all of the photos from the restoration of his GLH-T and that was enough to keep me hooked for life!

Here is a picture of Denny's old GLH-T from when he had it about 7-8 years ago.

https://webmail.psu.edu/webmail/get_file.cgi?dir=attach&fname=scan0038.jpg

I know the guy who owns this exact car right now. Unfortunately it has served a rough life since Denny sold it all them years ago. It has been stripped of it's Super 60 parts and has just been sitting for the past several years and most recently the front end is jacked up on blocks :( I am going to make a great effort to try and buy it this coming summer in hopes to restore it back to its former glory. After restoring it, I can't think of anything more fitting than driving it to show Denny and tossing him the keys and letting him take it for a spin :thumb:

Well, there's a bit of a dumb story with mine but it's funny to me.

Mine wasn't a TD. Mine was my Dad's 1999 Dodge Caravan Sport. 3.8L V6, Short Wheelbase Torque Monster for a Van. After eating up a few mustangs in it I always wanted a fast minivan because it was awesome.

One day, I was browsing supercars.net, and I came across a Dodge Spirit R/T as a supercar. I was intrigued, and had to check it out. I was a bit intrigued, and read a few posts people made, and someone posted a link to Dempsey Bowling's site, www.turbominivan.com.

I read the site, couldn't believe there were turbo minivans made ever. I watched some videos, and it was Paul Smith's wood panel van that left me in awe, and knew I had to get one. I started looking for them, but all the turbo vans had been sold.

One thing that caught my eye was a 1990 Chrysler Lebaron. My friend had an 87 2.5 N/A Auto Coupe Lebaron, and it was sorta nice, and we had always joked about having a fast lebaron. I went and checked out this car on a whim, and when I drove it, it was just amazing. Nicest shifting, fastest accelerating, and flashiest car I'd ever driven, and it was a convertible!

I took out my first ever loan, and bought the car a week later. This was my first ever car, and still my baby. I've always wanted a fast minivan, however, and right now I happen to have one in the works. I have a feeling this Van is going to be the car that keeps me into Turbo Mopars.

Here are a couple of pictures of the LeBaron that won my heart, and the van that is going to win me a few timeslips at the drag strip this year.

Mine was a co-workers 85 or 86 ( I forgot) blue GLH omni. That car had a MP LM and unknown boost (no gague). It hauled --- and made me get my first car. My current shadow.

The omni met a drunk driver at an intersection and was damaged beyond repair.:(

I was at a towing yard auction a few years back, and stuck in the back right corner was a black charger. Now I am a big fan of sleeper cars, and remembered a dodge charger "GLHS" that was supposidly something special. I thought to my self, no way that is a GLHS. I walked over to it, saw SHELBY on the side and the turbo buldge hood. Peeked around back, "GLHS"!! I really did not need another car at the time, but I just could not let this one go to the Junk yard (where most of the cars from this auciton end up). So I bid and won it for 125 bux. It needed a complete top end rebuild. We rebuilt it and it fired right up. After a bit of tweaking, she was good to go. Unfortunatly the car needed too much more interior/exterior work that I didn't want to do, so I sold it about 6 months later. But that got me hooked, now I can't seem to quit messing with my Spirit R/T!

My buddy's mom's Daytona. Back around '91 he let me drive it in the rain and I slid it into a curb hard. I was about 16 I guess. He got in some serious trouble for that one. :)

But what really hooked me was the minivans. I had to have one.

Well mine prob had to have been a NA '88 Daytona that was for sale in my town. I then started doing research about them then discovered TD's. I then started looking for TD's. Mind you I am only still 16 but I found a red 89 Shelby in PA but the guy didn't want to sell if after I had been interested. So that fell through. I then bough a '95 Probe GT that I fixed up(not riced out). I then rear ended a guy and drove the car for 2 months then the diff. went out in the and scrapped the car. I then searched about again to find a TD which is when I found my car a '88 Shelby Z when I fixed up and am still fixing up and getting running right. I like the car and i also hate the car because everything breaks on it. Yeah it is easy to fix but I don't car how easy it is to fix something i would rather have 1 hard fix then for a ton of small fixes.

well my name is jeremy and i am now a boostaholic (but for good reason)

To tell you the truth the first boosted mopar in 2000 it is a 85 shelby and i still have shelly today
when i first seen it a friend had bought it and he was driving it with a bad clutch but for some reason somtimes it whould still grab in first and chirp the tires and that got me interested then i heard my first real turbo (i grew up with a dad that had a long list of the best of late 60's and early 70's muscle cars and lived by the adage that you cant replace displacement........ later i found that it was a thing of the past)
then he landed himself in jail and i bailed him out for the car he knew i wanted soo bad after a while of driving on a bad clutch i got it replaced and it scared the hell out of me,..... ive been hooked ever sence

now im about SEVEN GRAND into doing a race build up and cant wait to get it on the road again. ive owned about 23 cars in my small tenure on this planet and i know for shure that this one will never leave my side (and yes i will be buried with it if i cannot give it to my son.) and you all here and dempsy and gus and all are deep in my heart for being part of this discovery and recovery of my car, thank you

I had read what the GLH was. And then found an '86 GLHS near my home. What really hooked me was the test drive. The owner told me to lay into through first and shift into 2nd as quick as I can. A good length of rubber on the road and a power shift later I was hooked. I got a solid 80k miles of service out of that car in the 4 years I drove it daily. Damn good car.

mine started out as my moms 85 lebaron GTS highline it had every option you could get. but my mom is one of those people who drives 10 under the limit everywhere so i had no idea it was a fast car, one day my brother borrowed it and took me for a drive i was about 11 at the time and holy hell he scared the crap outa me. the car failed emissions so my mom parked it and bought a new car. when i was 15 and taking mechanics in school we were allowed to bring in our own cars and rebuild the engines. so i asked my mom and she gave it to me (she was more than happy to get that thing out of her driveway). I rebuilt the engine and i still remembered that it was a fast car so i started doing some research on TDs and came across Gus's site. it was an 85 2.2 t1 with the log intake so i couldn't intercool it so instead i used alcohol injection and boosted it to 23 psi. that car was nutty fast. i drove that car for years until the one day i decided it would be fun to turn up the boost a little more and shattered my piston rings:banghead: that was the end of that car but the memories me and my friends had in that car will live forever. now i have my hybrid omni project muhahaha

cruising the main strip one saturday night in 02' in my 85 IROC-Z camaro i was with a buddy and heard a race coming from the other direction. a black omni glh something. don't know if it was a glhs or what but it was beating the hell out of an ls1 camaro!!!! i didn't know at the time what the hell it was.. well a few years pass (06') and i still have the camaro and getting my --- handed to me... i had a ---- load of mods in the thing and couldn't break into the 14's!!!! so my friend acquired an 85 shelby charger. i kinda laughed when i seen it because some wacko painted it green and purple so we called it the joker. well i drove it down the road and said to my self ----!!!! so that brought me back to the little black car back in 02' that i saw. so i began my search. nothing. so one day at work i was standing outside the door and saw a white spirit drive up and you can hear the turbo spoolin!!! i was like no way!!!! is that thing turbo??? hell yea it is!!!! so he told me about a buddy with a turbo van (coy) and he knew of an 86 glhs omni sitting in a salvage!!!!! sweet!!!!! i sold the iroc. so i have never seen this car nor did i know the condition of the car before buying it and i sold my only car for it lol. well there she was. no front end!!!! drug it home and now building it to be terrorizing the streets again!!!!

My first G body was a 90 Daytona (base), 2.5 TBI / 5 speed. Wrecked it, and while it was being totalled at the body shop (no, the three-sided signs at the bottom of off-ramps aren't STOP signs!!!) I saw a white '91 base car with a bulge hood and big wheels. Looked at it, sure enough, an AGS Competition car. Bought it with 63 miles on the odometer, still have it with just over 74k. Since then I've been thru the L24s (I'm too tall for them), one SL, an 87 CSX (being rebuilt now, actually), a pair of 89 CSXs (still own one), a Spirit R/T (fun four door), a 90 VNT Daytona Shelby, and own but have never driven because I haven't rebuilt it yet 86 GLHS. All those, and I still love my G body!

My first TD, which I still have now after 4 years, is my baby. Its a mint condition 88 Chrysler lebaron J body turbo. I had the car when I was 15 and didn't have a drivers license, I had it parked until I turned 16. This is how the story goes, My uncle bought the car for $500 back in 2000 with a blown engine(piston were melted from original owner). The car was parked on ramps at his house for about a year, After that the head was apart and the block only in place. until one day he called me and told me if I wanted the car I could take it, other wise he was gonna junk it. So I said hmm OK let me see it. I saw the car didn't think much of it, Looked inside and the interior was spotless, outside was spotless with power windows, locks mirrors.I fell in love with the car. My cousin told me its a turbo and i was like WHATS THAT?. towed my car home and parked it, till I saved up money. Well, from 16 1/2 till now and 8,000 invested in it, Tll Built engine, A-555 conversion (was auto) , upgraded fuel injectors and fuel pump, 12psi and ---- load of another goodies I was a proud owner. Not only did I have the fastest car in high school, I was the only one in my town with a turbocharged lebaron and when I raced I caught everybody's attention....which was bad at times

The first turbo dodge that got me hooked was the Spirit R/T. When they came out in 91 I was only 12 years old. But I was hooked. My brother came real close to buying a new one in 92. But he couldn't drive a stick. He's still kicking himself to this day for that one.

Now the first turbo dodge I ever drove was my friends 2004 SRT4. He had less than 100 miles on the odometer when I got to drive it. I went to do a quick shift and for some reason the PCM fried in between shifts. Oops..

The first time I drove a Spirit R/T was when I test drove the 92 I bought back in January. I gave the guy the cash during the test drive. :)

Huh thats kinda funny, one time I built a 273 for my 77' power wagon. I wanted to be different. It was from a 65' cuda and it had a solid lifter cam. I put an offenhauser aluminum single plane intake, edelbrock 500 carb, comp cams Magnum cam 224 duration@.050'' lift and .468 lift solid cam, Mallory unilite ignition, headers, dual 2.5'' exhaust.....tons of fun but it simply lacked low end torque for my 4X4 truck. I took it past 7K RPM's a few times just for fun and it pulled hard up there, but below 3000 RPM it didn't have much. I wanted to put it in a 73' Valiant but the valiant ended up need more body work than inticipated so I gave up on the project and sold everything to build a 360 for my power wagon.
I've *almost* exclusively owned mopars, the exception is I had a chevy truck for a little over a month before trading it in on a ram LOL.
Here's my list in order-
77' Chrysler Newport, 440 4bbl- This car was just awsome, my first car was a land yacht! All the kids at school thought I was a drug dealer, could have fit 4 bodies in the trunk with ease.
77' Dodge W100 power wagon-Wasted more money on this truck than one could possibly imagine
73' Plymouth valiant- Brief project car, needed too much work though
87 Dodge Daytona- Woohoo the car that started my TD days, over 300 WHP when it left my possession.
81' Mercedes 300D- A diesel daily driver for a little while the daytona was down getting engine rebuilt, it's kinda a chrysler no?
93' Chevy Z71 pickup- A very nice truck and the 4X4 was amazing in it, engine had a rod knock and I only got 12-13 MPG.
94' Dodge ram 2500 Cummins turbo diesel 5 speed 4X4- Very fun truck and easy to makes tons of power, had 325 RWHP and 750 RWTRQ when it left me.
Now I had a 90' Dakota, 2.5L 5 speed. This truck got me back into TD's, got curious about turbo conversion on a dakota but I decided to pick up an 88' shadow instead to make a street/strip car out of, no more turbo dodge daily driver I got married so I need reliability! :yuck:

When I was a kid my parents had a 1988 LeBaron GTS. That car had me hooked and then they bought a 1989 GTC Turbo II which happens to be the red one in my CarDomain garage. I ended up buying from them and later it was totaled in an accident with a Pathfinder, not my fault.

It was my 87 Daytona Pacifica. My family has always been into Dodges. My dad used to work on and drive V8 Mopars. So of course when it came time for me to drive, I started looking for something Dodge and affordable. For Christmas when I was 17, I was surprised with a key hanging on the tree, and then to the Pacifica sitting outside. He bought the car and put a new engine in it for me. Besides it being probably the single greatest gift anyone's ever given me, I loved that car. Bright red paint, black leather interior, sun roof, and absolutely base model everything. Its options were automatic trans, nav computer, and the leather seats. I swear I think we were out fixing something on it once a week, but it was a blast to drive. Unfortunately, a guy in an 80's T-bird pulled right in front of me and I t-boned him at 40mph. His car wouldn't even start, but I managed to nurse the Daytona home. Gotta love that collapsable nose. It was totaled and I found a good deal on a low miles LeBaron turbo, but looking back on it I wish I had kept the car. It'll never be the same, but I plan on finding a similar car one of these days. Until then, I'll keep trying to make this (expletive) Daytona Shelby work. :)

The very first Turbo Mopar car I owned was a 1987 Shelby Dodge Charger GLH-S #189. I was young when I bought it and didn't know the true value of it until after I sold it. Yea, that's right. I said number 189. I sold my car which is now called Blackie. Owned by none other than Ken. I am very happy to know that I sold it to a good home. From what I have seen in pictures, Ken has done a very awesome job on taking care of her.

I think so. There's a white 87 Pacifica at a repair shop up the road from me. It was hit hard in the front end too. The shop wants $600 for it, it's full of trash they've been loading in the hatch, and they admit it's totalled. It's been sitting there for a couple years, and it'll keep on sitting there too! My accident also had some serious fender damage and it rubbed the tire a little, but I babied it home for a couple miles. The cop on the scene was nice and followed me with lights on in case it didn't make it. It was like a scene from a police chase show, only in slow motion. :p

Hah! what state are you from? State troopers from PA wouldn't do that in a million years, and neither would 99.99% of local cops either. Around here the power goes to their heads and they are all A-holes.

VA. And it wasn't a state trooper. They're mostly jerks here too. It was a local cop. At the time, my family knew half the cops in the county, so that helped. And I wasn't far from home. If it had been a longer distance then I probably would have had to call a tow truck.

Ohhhh, I've talked to VA state troopers and IMO they are worse than PA! Well, West VA I know is about THE WORST. My brother got pulled over, 3 other cops circled him, and he got cuffed and the car searched, he wasn't speeding or anything there was no reason other than their claim the car looked ''suspicious'' because it was a 77' Newport (drug dealer looking car).

My first TM, well actually it wasn't a turbo at the time is my 84 Voyager. My parents got the van for free from my aunt and uncle in 94 because my cousins would not drive it. It was a 2.2 5-spd. I loved it because it was simple and easy to work on and parts were interchangeable between it and other Chrysler cars of that era. When I turned 16 in 99 everyone thought I was nuts. I had a choice between the van and a mint 88 grand prix SE and I choose the van. Hey how often do you see a 5-spd van. I later did a turbo conversion. Since then I have or had a
90 Shadow ES turbo (donor for 91 shadow convertible)
91 Shadow convertible ( now a turbo)
90 Caravan SE turbo (donor for 84 van)
89 Caravan ES turbo ( bought for $65 as a parts van but turned into my daily driver)

well what started it for me was not actually a turbo but i think you will let me slide.

I had just graduated HS in 84 and was working at this place and saw a shelby charger in blue. I loved tha car it was so hot looking didn't know anything about them really...now i was driving a VW Sirrocco with progressive 2 barrel weber carb, red with white interior. I took out the front passenger seat and made my buddys sit in the back with their feet stretched out... my friend had a triumph spitfire with dual side drafts we used to just cruise like crazy and raced my friends 85 camaro v6 and held our own with him.

well i got a better job and convinced mom to take me car shopping I looked at the charger and it was just a little to much for me to spend being brand new. I checked out honda crx and Si as well...

so we go to this other dodge dealer and this really hot well built sales chick she says well did you look at the omni?? same parts!

she gets the key to a 85 GLH... so out we go and i am running this car flat out full throttle hard shifts and flying though corners with the sales chick up front and my mom in the back seat. WE get back to the dealer she says how about a drive in the turbo version... again hauling butt with mom in the back....

So mom says yeah she will co sign a loan and i wrestle between turbo and non... with the extra 1500 for the turbo and the A/C that came with it was jsut too much once you figure in the insurance to the deal... so i go with the GLH black with grey.

I get it home and my friend paul is like you bought an OMNI!!! WHY!!??
I say get in... I feather up to about 3500 rpm and then floor it.. his head snaps back and looks at me like what the hell?? I wind out third coming up to this turn and keep it floored and jsut rip into the turn... he's all freaking out in the passenger seat and going for the brake and such. I look over at him... he's really pale. I slow down and start to weave back and forth on the road and his head hits the passenger window. I laugh and say its a OMNI why are you freaking out!!

So thats how i got here... later in 86 paul and i trade my car for his new Ninja 600r for a month. He ends up buying a 86 GLH-T. black and red. He totals that car in like 4 months on a pole with bruce in the back. Bruce buys a Blue GLH-T... then bob buys a 84 GLH.. Merle gets a 85 GLH and John moves into town with a GLH-T...

So this little shoreline town has all these GLH cars racing around... the cops were not happy...

I was a complete nightmare with all my friends and those cars.

So today I await Chris at Turbo's Unleashed to finish my "new car"....

thats all I'll tell for now...;)

1985 Santa Fe Springs Blue GLHT, first and last new car I ever bought.

Just a shade under $10,000 OTD, on the 5/5/5 deal; that is, 5% interest, 5 yrs to pay, and 5yr/50K mile bumper to bumper warranty.

What a deal! Still have the car.

My first TM experience was with my first car, which I still actually have; an '87 carb'd auto Plymouth Horizon. Was my grand father's car, he passed away and then I got it and began reading about the GLH and all the turbo mopar cars online.

Over the years, it has changed from a 'grandma's car' when I was 16, to what it is now, a hobbled mixture of Omni and Horizon parts. It still runs the carb'd 2.2, but it has full GLH suspension, strut braces, rims, GLH front spoiler and side skirts along with a cam, jetted carb and exhaust system.

Although it's not a turbo, it's still fun tearing around cars and waking up neighbors with my Horizon. Wouldn't sell it for anything!

Our 81 Omni w/2.2 carb 4 speed started it for us. Great little thing that never gave up. fast forward to march of 94 and my sister wrecked it :( wanting to stay in the 2.2 family. The folks found a very base model P body 4dr hiding on the dodge dealers back lot. It was a 5 speed and cheap, the dealer wanted it gone. So the sale was made

15 yrs and 236,000 miles later its still going. I hope by 300k to have a T2 &
A568 combo ready to drop in.

I got my first car when I got my license at 16, saved up all summer and went to my uncles shop. I wanted a standard car, the only one they had was a probe (junk). So I bought my 92 Spirit, black on red 3.0 a604 with working R12 A/C and drove it like a grandma for 6 months. Then on a warm spring day I held it to the floor for a good while and cooked the 604. I got interested in swapping it to 5 speed and did a helluva job making it look factory. I drove it for 3 years, built up a 14 second 3.0L for it and then got t-boned.

In '82 , a good friend of mine leased a Red over Gold Charger 2.2 , followed by a Charcoal '83 Scamp GT , then a blue '84 Shelby . His first new car purchase was a red '85 GLH-T . We put about 500 miles on it the first night he got it !!

Shortly afterwards , three other friends picked up '85 & '86 GLH-T's , as well as an '86 GLHS .

Shortly after purchasing , the '86 GLH-T was upgraded to S specs . (If I told you how , you probably wouldn't believe me) . I remember Tim running 14.49 @ 99 in that configuration . Then more computer , exhaust , injectors, TB & a soft set of Mickey Thompson radials , got it down to 13.58 @ 106 . This was in about 1987 , we had a TON of fun stunning nearly every owner of a modern Musclecar at that time .

Tim broke the 525 in '88 & parked the car . He still has it , but hasn't driven it in years....

I would say all these cars got me hooked on TMs , but most of all , that Black '86 GLH-t had the most influence . Funny , I couldn't afford any of the "new " cars back then , I've made up for it now !!

In the summer of 1987 I was 9 years old, my mom bought 1987 GLHS #0041 new at hunter dodge in lancaster, ca. I fell in love with that car instantly. I loved the sound of the turbo as it spooled up, and the feeling in your back as it pulled hard accelerating. I have alot of good memories as a kid going to the beach in that car, cruising around, etc. I never got to drive it however, my mom sold it shortly before I was old enough to drive. Partly because it had some stalling problems (most likely easy fixes now that I know more about them) but back in the mid 90's didn't have any idea about it. She got fed up and sold it.

Tracked it down, from some SOCAL SDAC members help years ago, had been junked. Made me so sad.

But I always loved the Daytona even more. I watched DeeDee MCCall and Hunter cruise around in the 85 turbo z, and later the red shelby z. As well as sitting in a few new ones in the showroom back in the 80's.

So once I was working, I started looking. My first tm is a 1988 Shelby Z, I got from the original owner, who knew what it was, and had stored it in his garage for about 5 years. That was around 2001. Since have aquired 2 more 88 Shelby Z's, both with t-tops, and an 85 turbo z. Even had a 89 Caravan ES for a while, but was offered good $ for it and sold it.

I was born a Mopar guy, but like the '60 stuff. I had a 1969 Dodge Coronet 500 2 door HT 318 car for summer cruising, but gas prices and reliability issues with my DD (1980 Ramcharger 4x4) meant I needed to find a replacement for it.

I had always like the styling of the Shelby Chargers. so started looking for one. I found a black and silver 1987 at a used car lot, so traded in the Ramcharger and made the deal. The SC wasn't any more relialbe then the Ramcharger, but it was better on gas and fun to drive. While surfing the 'net trouble shooting problems with the SC, I learned more about TD's and was hooked.

hmmm the first one that got me hooked was a 85 GLH that i was trying to buy back in 1998. the guy wanted more than i wanted to spend so i kept looking. later in college frank and i were hanging out and we decided to put a 3.0L and a 543 in his shadow. i was driving a SHO at the time. through researching stuff i came across gary and gus's site and it was all over then. i had to get a TD.

i bought a beater aries and sold my SHO and then bought my reliant for 525$ off of my parents neighbor who was going into a nursing home. my mom says i ruined the car with all that noise and nausea inducing acceleration but i think its perfect! :)

my only other TM is my 87 pacifica that im fixing up. ive had a few others but they were all parts cars and sacrifices to build something else.

funny thing was that i thought the 2.2 sucked in high school. everyone i knew that had one had some sort of problem with it and all the turbo cars that i came across had some issues too.

little did i know that they needed was some TLC. :)

1984 Turbo Colt, it was my first and only new car purchase, I went in to buy the NA Shelby Charger and the salesman said I should take it out for a spin first. I was sold in 2 blocks, paid $7,100 for it and drove it for 147k trouble free miles until the trans locked up, then sold it cheap. I kept the rear window sticker "Don't Step on the Gas Unless You Really Mean It!" I replaced the car with a used '85 GLH-T. When I was out car shopping for one, I went for a test drive with a guy that had installed a super 60 kit in it, damn that car was fast, I didn't buy it because I thought it was too much. The guy that was selling the car was Mike DeMoss of Forward Motion years before he started his business, I guess he was hooked on them too.

In response to blk86trbo and 86Shelby, I acquired the scoop off an older Charger 2.2 and then notched the rear of it, cut a hole in the hood and painted it to match the hood. I then bought a taller K&N filter for the carb and have a functional cowl induction hood.

I'll post some pictures of the engine bay a little later.

weeee for bringing up old threads!

My dad bought me a 78 SE Charger with no motor or drive train. I remember being 15 and going out everyday to rub baby oil on the cloth top. We ended up getting rid of it because my dad didn't have the time to drop a motor into it.
My dad knew where a slant six duster was sitting out near Goehner, NE. We drove out there to look at it and get it, but they had a 89 Daytona ES TBI auto car. I refused to get the duster because I wanted a red sports car, went against my dads wishes, and we bought the Daytona. A lot of things didn't work on it, but I loved the car. I thought it was fast (haha, first cars!) and I drove it for three months before it blew out the front seal on the tranny. I put two fuel pumps, new fuel tank, and new fuel rails and lines because it was all rusted to crap and the fuel pump was junk. I sold it for 50 more than I bought it, and went off to buy a 89 Ford Probe.
Now, while we were at the shop where we bought the daytona we went inside to sign the title and what not. Sitting in the corner behind old school muscle cars was an 85 Shelby Charger. I inquired about it, but he refused to sell it saying it was worth too much money and I would kill myself in it. I called the guy over and over trying to get him to sell it but he still refused, so I bought the probe.
Two months into the daytona guy called me and said that he would sell the Charger for 700 but as is no warrenty. I didn't care, I wanted that car! I sold the probe the next day for 200 more than I bought it for, and was without a car for three days. Drove out to his shop and he had the Charger sitting outside covered in dust, best site I've ever seen. I gave the guy the cash and followed my dad home. I buried the speedo so many times on the way there, and was hooked ever since!

I remember when I was around 13 or so, I saw an 88 CSX-T at Walmart. I thought it was the stangest looking Shadow I'd ever seen. It wasn't untill years later that I realized what it was. Then I ended up finding the car years later in the same town. I believe the same owner still has the car, but it's in pretty sad shape now.

Big TM guy i knew from working on my 3.0 Spirit and Old 2.2 Minivan had bought my 89 Shelby at Auction from an Estate. He was getting ready to part it out. My stepfather flew back to our house, told me and we went for a test drive. No radiator in the car my stepfather flew through the gears up and down the guys street. :hail:

I took out a student loan and gave the guy $1550 the next day (1500 for the car 50 for a radiator).

I haven't had much time to build a collection, but i did just by a 87 Lebaron Vert w/ 66k miles on it. 2.5 (i think) Turbo. Let the modding begin!! :thumb:

Lets see, i'm over 30k in and I have a car that doesn't run right, and if i want it to run right it wont start. It gets just about 0 respect outside of the TM/TD circles....and it leaks from someplace that's not the t-tops.....

I don't know how to explain it, but i love the damn thing. It's caused me nothing but headaches and grief, but when it is running (albeit not that well) and i'm cruising down the highway with the top off, or blowing the doors off a fox-body mustang some kid slapped an exhaust on....all the other ---- disappears from my mind.:hail:

Then i try to cold start it and sit in my driveway for 40 minutes while i wait for the idle to even out... :confused2:

Haha, no problem, it amuses me to an extent. I was working with a SDAC member up here in New England. And i thought i had it fixed, but when i pulled the car apart to redo the headgasket i found pitted heads and enough carbon to make a 10 karat diamond. I just bought the wideband o2 sensor he suggested and i'm hoping to meet back up with him to take another stab at it.

Just nervious about running it, as i'm not sure the computer isn't going to grenade my engine.... :o

As far as the "reciepts" a rough sketch:

9k on the engine (rebuild, swap to a 2.5 (orig was 2.2), exhaust, new transmission (dead one was reason for the rebuild) all sorts of stuff) Paid extra on this as i had it built for me...seems i'm destined to redo the job peice by piece...
8k on the paint job (body was a mess, ferrari paint (apparently that's not cheap...who knew) "custom" fade (no more replacement shelby stickers, had to replicate it with paint....)
7k on the stereo
3k on wheels and tires
1k on Recovering Seats/Doors

And i feel it's very very safe to say i've spent over 2k on other little here's and there's, not counting redoing some of those big tickets above.

I have a custom rear seat delete / t-top holder which is pretty neat, however i don't have pic's and i'm currently in the process of re-doing that. originally did it with carpet, i think it would look better with vinyl covering....

Lol...so anyways, that's how you spend 30k on a daytona....happens pretty fast.... =P.... hoping my new found enthusiasm will net me a car that runs. I have it from a fairly good authority the car should easily push 300+ hp....but with the current config (computer) its only pushing 230/240....a dissapointment to say the least.

Current pic....kind of a bad one, taken on a video camera that takes still shots....

Yeah, the car has run like crap since the day i put the new computer in it. First it wouldn't start, then it really wouldn't start. Then i had detonation, then it had no HP.

I had someone up in New England that know's how to burn chips burn me a new chip and we upped my fuel pressure, but now the car is running pig rich and i think its part of the reason my exhaust (and turbo) were over-carbonated.

When i talked to him he said if i get the wideband o2 he can dial it in perfect, i just got my o2 in the mail last night, i will be installing it this weekend and praying for the best.

That's if i don't set this thing on fire and collect insurance first....:banghead:

I would say black seats with red stitching, maybe red "shelby" emblems on the headrests, etc. I hate to say it, but I really love the interior color schemes of the Cobalt SS, maybe take some ques from that? Car looks absolutely fantastic, but it's safe to say all that red on the inside won't sit well with everyone, but who cares!? Your ride, your way!

The first TM that got me hooked was 86 GLH T that a friend of mine bought new. The GLH was black with tinted windows & Enki black mesh wheels. The car looked evil. We allways had fun beating up on Mustang GTs & GM f bodys & the owners of the other cars never knew what they just got beat by.
My sister also had a 85 GLH na, it was fun to drive but did not have the punch that the turbo had.
I bought a new 87 GLHS in 88 but always liked the omnis better. After 20 years of wanting one I have a 86 GLH parked in the garage.

'85 Daytona Turbo was my first, and an '86 Daytona Turbo Z was the second. The 86 was a total blast to drive; I wasn't afraid to go up against Camaros and stangs with it either. :D

That was back around '92 or so, and over the years had a few other Turbo Mopars like Lebarons, etc.

Right now, I have a very-near-mint '89 Dodge Shadow ES that I scored for $500! Has a 2.5 auto, but with a rod knock.....I can deal with that easy enough.

Happy to be back with the FWD Turbo Mopar family!

My first "turbo mopar" was actually not turbo at all. It was an '85 n/a Omni GLH and also my first car. At the time, I really thought it was fast! It made enough torque to fry the tires in first gear with the 3.87 FD A525 but would barely do 110 MPH!!

THEN....I got a ride in my first TURBO mopar! It was my older brother's boss's car; an '89 Dodge Lancer ES with 2.5L TI/A520 combo. She used to let my brother take the car for running errands and once in a while I got to drive it. I was absolutely blown away at the torque that motor had and it was way faster than anything I had ever driven before. The fastest car I had driven before that was my brother's '85 Impala. It was a retired sheriff cruiser with 5.7L and a 700R4 auto trans. Pretty quick, but the Lancer was soooo much funner to drive too.

I got my Omni GLH when I started driving at 16 years old in '94. It wasn't until '99 that I got my first real turbo mopar which is my '87 Shelby Lancer #127. I've been buying a turbo mopar here and there ever since and just last year bought a brand new Dodge Caliber SRT-4. I had always wondered what it would be like to drive a brand new GLH Turbo off the dealership showroom and buying the CSRT was kinda like that for me in that it sorta fulfilled a dream for me. I love all my turbo mopars but I have to admit the GLH/GLHT/GLHS will always be my favorite car.

I got to them in a roundabout way, I love racing on the cheap, and was looking at going NHRA Stock racing (not cheap I know, but I am fascinated with it). I was on the class racer site, looking at a V/SA car, and then to FWD cars. Art Leong suggested a turbo Mopar, and then Sean Kennedy directed me here, the Minivans attracted me first, and I got one, but then I scored a free 87 Lancer ES, and now I have two Lancers and a Lebaron GTS, and will be taking a Lancer to the strip this year, the GTS will be NHRA stock legal, and while one Lancer will go TII, the other is going autocrossing. I also have a dirt track/enduro/rally type racing here, may mesh a Caravan and a Shadow or 2dr Aries for fun. Someday I'd like to have an Omni GLH

Back in '97 when I graduated from HS a friend of mine worked with someone who had a 87 glhs and a 87 csx. He was selling the csx and took me for a ride in it when I showed some interest. After watching him tear off 1st thru 4th and getting out of 4th because of wheelhop I was hooked. I wasn't able to buy the car then due to college, but I'll never forget it. Afterwards I owned 2 Shelby chargers till I bought my integra type r ( I know, I know) in 01. I went td-less till 2007. I started looking for csxs and found one in md that seemed ok even though it had a little cancer in the right rear. Upon looking up the carfax I found that it was registered in the same town as the car I looked at back in 96. So I'm pretty sure that it's the same car, as there couldn't have been many of these in Waterbury back in '97.

I'll get pics this weekend since it'll be nice, the van I started with may be coming back my way too. I thought it'd be cool, but I saw so many and I wanted to stand out so I went the h-body route. If nothing else I'll have parts for my TII upgrade...

well im game...my uncle bought a 90 VNT daytona back in 98, i was a jr in HS...the first romp in it bone stock and i was hooked!!!! i had a 76 chyrsler cordoba at the time (my first car) and when i realized this thing would walk all over my camed air gaped 4 barreln 3800 stall 360... i wanted one!...i searched for 4 years to find the right one...in 2002 after my uncle pu a fresh Opel Engineering 2.2L, MP "heart" head, and a new turbo he offered it to me for 1800 bucks.... sold!!!. now im not sure if he realized the "bitchieness" of the TIV cars were, but it had issues...so i drove it for 500 miles... and that bought the time i found Gus's site...and learned about the VNTs....well i decided to tear her down... and do the TII swap w/a 46 trim...after 7 years of building this car the way I wanted it to be, i was wraping it up...(i have a thread in projects section of it) i sent out my computer to Cindy for a fresh tune....while i waited a substantual amount of time to get it back, some DIP S*&# burned my house down, Murdering my beautiful TIV Blue Daytona....(and my beautiful boy graham...4year old Boxer)
i owned the car for 7 years, and only drove it 500 miles!!! RIP

i found my "new" one 2 months after the fire, for a grand, 91 2.5 TI, took the head turbo and every goodie i could salvage. and put it on the white one(i call the white one angel)... ill tell ya i put more miles last season on the white car at the track than i did total w/ the Blue one..haha...and to this day my addiction to the T-M grows!!!!!

oh and i have to say thanks to my fellow SDAC-CL member for showing me there support and "the way "of the turbo dodge!!!....thanx guys, and girl(s) '-)~

Lol, that's the reason I put that disclaimer in there, they've gotten a bad name by association. I think those were some of the last cars to actually be imported from Japan by Honda.

If I ever get a chance to get my hands on another unmolested ITR I'd definitely do so. I sold mine to someone who was doing SCCA races down in PA with it and won his division the 1st year after he took the car home.

The first TM that got me hooked was a 1985 Dodge Omni GLH-T. I had a Honda Civic that I bought to autocross, and a month or so after I bought it I swerved to avoid someone that ran a stop sign, and when I swerved I hit a tree instead. The car was killed so I looked at a primer gray Dodge Omni. What drew me to it was the ground effects & hood vent. I thought those were nothing special but looked up what was on the ground effects & foudn out how wrong I was. I went to the dealer that the car was at & it was priced at 795.00. I didn't have half that, but the salesman came out & told me "I am tired of looking at the car. You can have it for $350.00". I had $400.00, so I test drove it, liked what I felt & ended up buying it for a total of $395.00. The rest is history.

Mine was an 87 Shelby Z I bought from the Junk yard for $200. It had T-tops, and every other option, and no rust either. I replaced the cracked block and the brake lines. Drove it for 3 1/2 years, and put on over 80k befor getting rid of it. Went 3 1/2 years TD less before I found my Spirit R/T while looking for a CSX. I don't regret getting rid of the daytona, it was time to part ways. I would regret getting rid of the R/T though (unless it was for a CSX :eyebrows: )

mine is a 92 3.0 daytona , 3.0 auto , was a blast to drive and drive the s*** out of it and sold it more than i paid for and bought my 86 sc with the money but the was almost junk all the way .It was a racer and almost everything was modified (not always the good way) no more fuse link all directly to the positive pole ...hole in the trans, water in the trans , half shaft axle hold with one bolt (guess what happen!) missing a lot of bolts ... missing a lot of things
so i decided to fix it ... new floors ,body job,new harness, new engine, fixed trans , almost put it all stock before modified it and it worked so far then i bought my 87 tona shelby z , got all the parts and needed new floors and a motor and the body is solid ! sorry for my english guys

Well, I can't remember exactly the first one since I basically grew up in a Dodge dealership in the early 80s. But I am pretty sure the first one was a 1 page brochure that my dad brought home for a red/silver Daytona Turbo Z in 1984. Then while standing at my bustop for 6th grade or something, my dad flies by in a 84 Silver/Black Daytona Turbo. That is the car that I am forever searching for on this planet - if I ever find it I will buy it.

After that, I seem to have a 85 Silver 600 ES Vert with pizza rims that was on the showroom floor stuck in my memory. I loved those hood louvres. Then I became obsessed with Shelby Chargers.

Then there was the 1991 Stealth R/T TT that made all TM's obsolete in my mind at the time. I want that car too.

I learned to drive stick on a 84 Mink Brown / Black Daytona Turbo that my dad loaned me in 1988. But the first TM that I bought was a 84 Chrysler Laser XE, manual. In hindsight, I regret selling that car, it was in such great condition. It just didn't occur to me at the time. Sold it for $1200 in 1994. Still have pics though...

My first Turbo Mopar was an 89 Daytona Shelby. I remember the day I found it clear as day.
I was 16 and working at Menards and one Sunday while eating lunch in the break room and reading the paper I saw a classified for a Dodge Dayton Shelby and decided to give the guy a call.
My friend and I went and looked at it after work and I was hooked and had to have that car. I convinced my parents that it was a safer car than the 73 Plymouth I was driving, since it had an airbag and 4 wheel disk.
I did not even know how to drive a 5 speed at the time so I did not get to drive the car untill after I bought it and came home. I learned how to drive the 5 speed in a couple hours and never looked back.
I still have this car and it is still in good shape, it needs a re-spray and I am currently puting a new short block together for it.
My only regret is that I sold my 73 Plymouth Scamp to buy it and man do I hate selling cars.
I cry every time I have to sell a Mopar. That is why I will never sell this one.

a gold GLH that i saw in 1998 when i was working on a roofing job in the summer between college semesters.

then i forgot about it for a while and had a nissan sentra, vw golf, 88 fiero, 91 SHO......

and then i saw it.... a 40k mile 88 plymouth reliant sitting in a garage of a little old lady about to go into a nursing home.....

525$ and it was mine. then, as my mom puts it, i "ruined" the car.

yes it was smooth. yes it was super comfortable and didnt vibrate at all at idle. yes it was ball a$$ slow.....

not so much anymore.

1987 Dodge Shelby Charger. I bought it because I thought it would make a cool daily driver, it got me hooked. I don't think it had 4K miles on it when I got the ride... It was love at first sight. There wasn't a happier kid in the whole world that day. I was hooked for life...:D

Same except purchased in 1991. Paid $400, it had a problem shutting off which was traced to a 3m scotch-lock on a fusible link! Drove it for several months before flipping it to my room mate after picking up a 1985 Shelby Charger and a 1985 GLH turbo. The silver '86 Daytona which ran low 13's wasn't far behind.

The first for me was an 84 GLH (n/a). I know not turbo, but I liked the way it handled. Moved on to various TM's after that and still have one 20 years later (and a shed full of spare parts). The first fun fwd car for me was an 81 Chev X11. That is what introduced me to the fact that small and fwd could still be fun This was after a few years with big block Oldsmobiles.

Thanks Jon. As far back as I can remember I have been drawn to the original survivor cars. As the saying goes it's only original once and mine is original because of one person, my wife. Realizing my desire to some day own a low mileage survivor car she agreed to allow me to garage the Z from the beginning, with one stipulation. I could never sell it, best deal I ever made.

That is the same issue that got me hooked on TDs. I was 14 when that article first came out. I knew I had to have one. Saved all my money from a paper route and working at a local gas station. Fast forward to Sept '86 and found a fully loaded dealer demo 86 Turbo Z CS with every option known to man (digital dash, trip computer, leather, etc). Yes I was crazy buying a new car at 17 but the deal was so sweat, only $10K for a car that stickered like $16K. I did some mods to it (direct connection computer, etc) and it was running just as strong as my cousin's 87 Daytona Shelby T2. So I decided to wait till the T3 DOHC motor that they had been talking about for years finally come out. But then I heard about the T4 VNT and how limited they were, I think each Dodge dealer was allocated only 1. Well as soon as my Dodge dealer got one, I kept going to the dealership to see if I could get a decent deal on it. After about 5 months and still no takers, the dealer was actually ready to deal. I got a 90 Daytona Shelby VNT for $13K (after the $2 rebate) and it stickered for $16.2K. And the best part about it was being able to roast every stock Mustang GT and Iroc Z-28 and still get over 22MPG. I miss that car, had to sell it in 2000 because I had 2 kids, very hard to fit 2 car seats in the rear and had nowhere to store it. I knew I was doing the wrong thing when I sold it but it was for the right reason. Still kicking myself for selling it. BTW, I never had an ounce of trouble with the VNT, that BS about killing the VNT because of problems was bull. My cousin who happened to work at the Dodge dealer that I bought my car from told me that due to Chrysler's financial problems, they were killing it off and sticking the T1 with the Mitsushity TE04 turbo in it and still calling it the Shelby. Then Shelbys licensing contract expired and they renamed it the Iroc in mid 91.
