This is a little old I know but no harm bringing it back up if for a good reason. Earlier I cut the back half off my exhaust. That shed 23 pounds. All I have for a cut-off wheel is a dremel so I had to use a hand saw to cut it and it was a bi*&^. It took a LONG time but I was determined. I sprayed penetrating lube on it every few minutes and had to reverse the blade halfway thru. It doesn't quite exit out the side, it more so faces the tire but I couldn't get the saw on any other way to cut it differently with the fuel tank in place but I really do think it looks better now and the weight savings is a big plus. Not to mention I probably freed a couple hp. The cat is still in place. I didn't want to go open downpipe; I think that would be uncomfortable. The only issue I can maybe see is the whole exhaust is now supported by a rubber hanger but of course it's a lot lighter now.

I thought I would never do a side exit. I just wanted to lose some pounds and couldn't wait until I could get the muffler cut off and replaced with pipe. I like that it is only visible from a good distance or kneeling down. I can respect everone who has a pipe out the side of their car but I prefer mine to be hidden whether on the side or rear. I think the body looks alot cleaner like that.

What does the Mustang have for an engine? With those huge tires that thing has gotta be fast.

Aries_Turbo

you can buy/rent a cutoff tool at alot of autoparts stores. it has a chain and a bunch of cutting discs and a handle and works pretty good. that way you can cut it on a straight section and the extend a straight piece of pipe out the side and be all set.

The Mustang has a 351 Windsor, World iron heads, 6 something cam, runs high 10s, car is certified for 9.8s. He also has another 351 with Performer RPM heads that is going to go in the car which should have more power yet, and is more pump gas friendly. The tires on the car are HUGE, shoulda got a pic from the rear.

i have band clamps under my k car on that last straight before it heads past the gas tank so I can easily swap to a side exit when I want to.

That looks really nice. It's subtle, just how I like it. I think when I get a custom exhaust done I'll get a vendor downpipe but the rest I'll just get done around here similar to that or how I have it now. I gotta drive the car first to see if I like it though. With the cat still in place it should be alright.

What year is the stang? It is the same color and bodystyle as my brothers 5.0. He has alot done to his car but it still looks stock other than tint and lowering.

The mustang is a 79 body with 93 front and rear bumpers. It's built "right", would cost him at least twice as much to build it compared to what he paid for it. It's missing the trim along the doors and rear 1/4 panel, gonna replace it soon...

Here's an older shot of my van, it's got a TU 3" SV, TU 3" DP, no muffler or cat, 45 deg. and out the side. :) It's getting annoying now.... Gonna do a full 3" and out the back in the stock location, but at an angle with a 4" slash cut tip like a diesel truck, because I have gotten so many comments on how it sounds like a Cummins, lol.

Isn't it risky going out the passenger side because it's right under the fuel lines? Looks good though.

The exhaust goes to the passenger side in vans, the fuel lines are tucked up on the side of the frame rail, and the exhaust hangs pretty low, in relation to where the fuel lines are. I'll take a few more pics of it today. :)

Thanks! :)

No offense , thats is a nice car.but with tires like that it should run 7's. Reeves omni could beat that ...lol

Yeh, your right, I would stick an SVO motor in it. My V8 days are over with the high cost of fuel, just make a 4 go like an 8. Mustangs are cool though, at least Ford didn't make them fwd.

3" starting after DP. Sound is low at idle and the spool sound is like a UPS truck when accelerating.. I also have a cutout before cat.
