^^^ that pic was taken under the motor looking towards the back of the car. you can see the rack and how much clearence i still have.

as you can see i did the test fit with the stock SV on, it definatly helpped with figureing out where i'm gonan have to cut for the 3" mod (gonna mod an old 2.25" SV)

now i just gotta get the welding finished, then mod the SV can, and then the oil retuen.

i've also got a header with the flange about 1" shorter (closer to the head). it may be better off on a charger or in a mini.

OH, just to let you guys know i did the test fit on a 90 daytona shelby VNT i'm working on for a friend. i'm some what dissapointed to find all the rust on the car :(

Wow Ray I'm actually impressed. Well done, and nice work testing on a VNT. I'll be in touch after my holidays to talk about this. Nice Work!

me thinks you need a new SV or you're gonna have steering rack bbq

I really like TBI headers, but I kind of wonder if the gains are worth what you end up losing in the exhaust gas needing to make a 90* out of the turbo into the swingvalve, then another immediate 90* to clear the steering rack... not to mention the path that the very turbulent wastegate gas needs to take to get there!!

Good work though, should be a lot of fun!!

I think the SV wouldn't be anymore restrictive than a stock 2.25 or 2.5 SV if you upgraded to a 3 inch one. But when making a TBI header you can adjust it slightly by putting it on a bit of an angle so the passenger side is closer to the firewall which will buy you a bit more SV room. I was going to build one, but I think I am going to switch back to a 16v hybrid in my car and stuff the goods in an Omni

Great work Ray, still won't beat me though, :thumb:

Hmmm Simon vs Ray....

Simon has better luck... But Ray has a lighter and possibly higher HP setup....

I bet that Simon wins cause Ray's blows up

this mad me chuckle! ;)

Relativly speaking, Ray's Luck vs Simon's Luck. Simon doesn't blow stuff up, his stuff doesn't run right, Ray blows stuff up

well think of it this way. when the exhaust leaves the turbine on the stock set up it has to hit the back of the stock SV then get rammed down into the DP. same basic thing with the TBI SV mod but this will now be facing the back of the car and be more of a 90* bend rather then just hitting a wall and trying to go in all directions. with the TBI SV mod you only need on 90* bend and it comes directly off the SV other then that it's basicley the same bends on the rest of the DP.

I started looking at making a TBI header before making this one, and a big part of it was that I wanted to be able to use an OEM swingvalve and without tight bends. Would have been difficult abd somewhat inefficient to mount the turbo flange on the cast manifold at this angle.

looks good (both JT and SP)

JT what material did you make that manifold out of?

thanks scott and to everyone else as well.

i was thinking about making up one so that it would be possable to use the stock SV. the flange would definalty have to be on some what of a major angle. some turning of the core would have to come into effect on that one. but after i get this one and the next one made up i plan on giving it a try. it wold be nice to make a bolt on TBI header with the only other mod you need to do is shorten the DP.

Thanks for the compliments folks. I have not touched the car since Topeka but will soon. If I have it off of the car for very long I will see what it would take to make copies.

It is made out of pretty thin wall mild steel.

I like JT's design quite a bit, if only it were able to mount an external gate with relative ease/performance.

I need to get moving on getting mine done it seems. Sounds like some people are still interested.

so JT, what keeps it from cracking? the coating?

Should be more so just a good quality weld. Although, some people seem to believe that the coating helps to keep it from cracking. I'm unsure of if it does or doesn't.

Never thought once about an external when making it, LOL...

Yes, I think it is a combo of the TIG and the 2000F Jet Hot coating on it.

is it thicker than regular exhaust pipe?

whatever I make when I do the next round of upgrades, its going to be at least sch 10 stainless or sch 40 mild steel.

Brian

Probably the same or a little thinner that regular pipe.

JT, your's is THAT thin? I'm amazed it's held up as long as it has! Kudos to you.

Schedule 10 is where it's at for good quality headers.

Fits ok in my car w/o power steering. Still need to see if it fits in an L-body with PS.

OK...so the everpresent quesiton...how much would that thing cost to have you build one?
