Over the past couple of days I've read about 16v convertions for the common block. From what I've read one of the favored convertions is to use a Stratus 2.4 DOHC 16v head. I don't remember what years had the motor but I remember some of the pics. Well at the U-pull it today I spied a '98 Caravan with a 2.4 in it. The head looked alot like the ones I've seen pic of. So I grabbed it and the manafolds. Out the door 71.00. I'm hoping it's the right head. Here are the pic's. Let me know if I jumped the gun or if I scored the right part for a hybrid.

Good deal, look into why the runner on #4 is stained, though.....

Good deal, look into why the runner on #4 is stained, though.....

I would venture to bet it's because of a crappy PCV valve.

Well at the U-pull it today I spied a '98 Caravan with a 2.4 in it.

Man thats the hot setup, that is the entire engine/trans setup I swaped into my Spirit. Thats the only place to find a 2.4 and 3spd auto from the factory, their hard to find intact(they also have a good starting point for mounts to do the swap).

The head will do fine, if it were me I would have tried to get a 2.0 neon head because the cams are better, but your good.

Good luck w/ your project

The Caravan has the whole engine/tranny set up you say. Well I hate to say that this engine/tranny was complete in a wrecked van. The only issue is I don't want to mess with getting all the electronics to work. It seems easier and cheaper to do a head swap with some mods.

I hear you, most people will say that if you can keep the distributor where its at its alot easier than the swap. Personally I like the newer motors better and there easy to work on. But the swap wasnt exactly easy, but not to bad if you start w/ that Caravan setup(keeping the auto of course).
Megasquirt is a great ecu and relatively cheap. It has many options.

Valves look good from below, like Mike said EGR slobber.

When your pulling the cams to pull the stock headbolts out
take your time and free all the caps evenly and slowly (no
impact). The older the head the more the factory steel heli
coil in the head wants to come out with the cap bolts.
The head looks clean enough to guess the lower and may have
failed, or trans but be sure and blow out all the oil feed lines
while working on it, these heads just store every piece of
babbit and steel the 2.0/2.4 block feeds them. The worst spot
is the gear end of cams were the oil bleeds down behind the
seal. The green paint mark on the cams agree with it being
originaly the head for a 2.4 or that van, 2.0 cams would be
pink. I like those intake runners on the vans, thru the hood!

That intake looks perfect for a custom plenum in a van, :thumb:

Russ the van was wrecked so the whole motor should be good. Simon I like the lower intake too. Easy to make the runners shorter as well.
