View Full Version : My Lancer Shelby - new wheels and plans!

Hiho, I bought a new set of wheels/tires for my Lancer Shelby a few months back and I finally got a chance to roll my car into my newly built (but not finished) garage so the first project in the garage was to test fit/install my wheels!

Wheels are custom 15x8... the wheel centers are pillaged from some factory wheel and welded into an 8" lightweight rim... they weigh about 11lbs each! Wicked! Tires installed currently are Hoosier drag radials, and Kuhmo Victor Racers (auto-x tire). The tires will get switched around, the Hoosiers won't stay on the car at all times... they will get their own set of rims for track days (and maybe a weekend or two, muhaha).

Anyway here are some pics, limited to the "good" side of the car though. Yea, thats the good side... its a bit rough, hopefully if I can find some missing gfx pieces maybe I can get the car painted this year.

Here's a shot of the whole car so you can use your imagination!

The car currently has/had a 2.2 TII, 555, 3" exhaust, small NPR intercooler and some other odds and ends. I cracked a piston last year so the car has been sitting for awhile. Plans are to rebuild it - better, faster, stronger.

Changes this year...
2.5 CB shortblock with Wiseco forged pistons. Balance shafts will be removed along with the oil pick up/pump mods.
A new 3-bar calibration that hopefully works properly. Also have D-cal/chip burner that I need to learn to use as well.
Car already had a 3" mandrel all the way but I'm throwing into a 3" TU SV onto my current T3 S70 turbo.
Will clean up/port the manifolds more, add 52mm TB to the intake as well.
1100cfm non-cheapo-ebay intercooler.
Cylinder head won't change, it is ported with +1mm valves.

Will probably be some other small toys but thats the big stuff, I can't wait. I hope to start buying the big stuff I don't have yet in Feb, and working on it in March.

Adios!

What Ken said. Can you please take some better pictures of the wheels? I think I'd rather have something like that than my Bogarts.

Hah, wow, nice responces already.

I bought wheels from "aquack" Allen Q. on the TD/TM boards. He had them made for his GLHS by Todd Nelson (TD guy, not positive if he is on the boards or not). He decided he did not want to use them anymore, and was selling them on TD awhile ago, I am lucky I grabbed them when I did and got a good deal too. I got them for ~1100 CDN with the current tires. I think Allen said it was in the $1000 US for the wheels alone and they had been barely used by the time I bought them.

I have no idea if the maker of the wheels would make more of these or anything similar, I've never talked to him before.

I will post back later today with more wheel pics, I gotta take off right now.

Later!

That would be me:)
I had them made by John's Custom Wheel back in probably around 1997 or so. They were around $900 with shipping ten years ago or so. The shop moved to Florida right after completing these wheels and I lost track of the shop. The center section started out life as a 16" 3 piece Corvette wheel. They are now a 15x8" two piece wheel. They "might" be a BBS three piece wheel originally. The centers are forged. Very light, yet very strong. These wheels were on my GLHS #276 which I sold to Allan Q. They made my GLHS look wicked. They fit completly in the wheel wells of the GLHS without rubbing. I did lots of homework to accomplish that. You were very fortunate to have bought these wheels when you did, as the owner that bought the GLHS from Allan wanted the wheels badly, and thought he had an agreement with Allan. You showed Allan the money, and as they say... money talks. That's exactly how Allan bought my GLHS, he made me an offer I couldn't refuse. Glad the wheels are getting some good use.

Kevin,
Yeah, they are light and strong enough for autocross use, and they look great! Check out the photo of the back side of the wheel. See the backwards Honda logo on the inside of the centercap? I spent like four hours searching through thousands of centercaps at a wheel re-finisher trying to find something that would fit. I hit paydirt with a mid 90's Prelude alloy wheel center cap:clap2: The guy felt so sorry for me he gave me the centercaps. :thumb:
Do some checking around, there are wheel companies that will do custom work. I still do have the backspacing measurements around somewhere if someone gets the itch.

Thanks. I've thought about having an inch added to a set of pizzas or my swiss cheese wheels. I wonder if somebody could add a 1" ring like that. I'm going to check around and see what I can find out.

Love those wheels. Looks better than the Shelby Lancer CSS wheels for sure. I myself am going with a set of 17x8 ASA AR1 wheels in black w/polished lip for my Shelby Lancer.

I know it is possible. My old tire shop manager used to talk about guys who would have their wheels widened so they could have stock appearing wheels from the side while having big slicks on them when viewed from the rear. On of the problems with this setup is that they are not even close to DOT approved, and supposedly have been the subject of law suits from what a car guy lawyer told me once. He talked a lot of talk though, so who knows.

That's been done before with pizza's. That old TIII RWD Charger had narrowed pizzas up front and according to the magazine article I read, the section was then added to the rear.

Hi Mike:

I was the guy trying to get those wheels for Todd and Allan's GLHS (I kinda' think of myself as the current caretaker and joint owner of GLHS 276) :( . I never saw those wheels in a picture mounted on a car. They are awesome! Glad to see they went to someone really appreciates TD Mopars. Please keep me in mind should you ever think about selling them;) .

All the best,

George

A friend of mine told me about this company: http://www.weldcraftwheels.com/

They seem to be reasonable. A local guy said they quoted him $420 to widen two wheels and narrow the other two. I'm going to see how much they'd want to widen a set of pizzas about 1" to the outside.

I have emailed revolution wheels US importer :
http://www.sspmotorsports.com/

{ the UK site : http://www.revolutionwheels.com/}

they are planning to add a FWD offset to (I think) their "5 spoke classic" as a stock item ; I suggested they offer a 15x7 & 15x8 ; but more voices may help their decision... if there is a big desire for a 15x8 for our cars and we can agree on a style, thses guys seem very willing to work on it

they will do custom widths/offsets/sizes/bolt patterns but have a minimum order... they have 3 product lines - race, ralley, sport which vary in weight/strength/price

I am looking into getting some 15x8s for my omni .. I think the black 5-spoke would be cool looking (dang I wish I knew how to photoshop)

Honda made a similar rim as the initial post of this thread, except they were four lug. Just FYI lol...

They look sharp with the centercaps! Nice job!
