Not trying that on the stock LW rods though right?

Ten years ago if you said you wanted 350 out of your TD they would laugh in your face, remember the S60 'kit' for 300? Nowadays it's so doable...

hybrid or GT turbo, forged slugs, well ported head, ported intake and exh. Preferably an aftermarket manifold of some type. +40s and a custom cal, 255lph pump, huge IC, the aforementioned alky injection, and a lot of patience.

All of this plus a transmission that can put it to the ground. a555 with a bearing support plate or an a568. A quaife or some other kind of ATB Differential would be helpful.

and a lot of patience.

I think this is the most important part out of all of that. People can say it's easy all they want, and they're right. It's easy if you have the cash to buy the right parts... to keep it reliable is an entirely different subject.

I would also go commonblock

Also research your parts list thoroughly before you buy so you don't have to spend the money more than once!

oh and calculate some $$ as backup, because you WILL change your mind on parts after you've bought the stuff ;)

Very true! We bought .020 over mahles and decided it best to go forged instead of the cast crap. Slugs aren't cheap either.

All 1989 and up cars and vans came CB from the factory.

Post pics by linking to a site using IMG tags or use the attach image feature, which non-members might not have.

ok so what 2.2 common block is the strongest ?

turbovanmanČ

They say theres a stronger version, has a "C" cast in the front, around the oil filter but someone split one of those so it doesn't really matter. Any CB will be fine, even n/a's are CB's, they just need the oil drain drilling out. As for internals, T1's and 2.5's got cast cranks and the good rods, the 2.2 VNT and TIII engines got forged cranks but are heavier that the cast ones, so that means cast can spin up faster and use less HP, plus they can take 350hp no problem.

2.2 common block, forged pistons,T-II rods, cast crank, ported 782 head +1mm valves, fmic, the right TURBO,header,s-60 cam,or equivalent will easily get you to 350hp NO alky injection on pump gas if done right.

as far as it being reliable it all depends on the tuner

I have an extremely similar setup, except I'm using the forged crank. Sometimes I wonder if that was the right move or not. Mine made 370 whp/39 wtq on pump 93 for reference, so Stephane is very close on.

Stephane- have you ever looked into having our forged cranks "butchered" or extremely lightened like FFWD (a company) does for Honda and DSM cranks? They dropped 9 lbs off of my brother crank... seems like it would be the best of both worlds as far as forged vs. cast weight for us.

The RIGHT TURBO is the KEY! Learning that the hard way.

My crank weighs in @ 32lbs ;)

yep we have been toying with the mitsu turbos lately

a 1989 shadow with a set-up like I mentionned earlier with equal length
header,modded intake ,ported evo3 turbo,custom cal did 328.3 whp at 18 psi
on pump gas an that thing spooled like crazy

Hmmmmmmm, very interesting. The best part is, those turbo's should be cheap as they just throw them away and upgrade to a larger one, :thumb:
