Hey Guys!

I'm wondering... is it possible to replace a piston through the bottom of the block? I know that w/ some finnageling I can get it out the bottom without pulling the head... but can I get a new one back up the same way?

I think the last engines the pistons came out from below were probably in the late 40s/early 50s unless you count VWs, Porsches and Corvairs.

Yep, the only way your getting that piston out the bottom is if you smash it to bits. :bounce: :dancingbana:

I guess if you just wanted to do it to say that it can be done you could remove the crank.

Still won't come out, the main bearing webs are in the way.

Yeah, that's what I needed to know, thanks for the 'heads-up' guys (pun intended) ;)

hehehe... yeah... well my fueling was a bit (read way) off and while tooling down the freeway I had to slow way down. Not thinking, I downshifted and engine braked, which pulled my vacuum too low hitting a lean spot and popped my number one.

But that just means that the heat is really on now if I'm going to make it to SAAC Does Vegas X. But fear not, I'm looking forward to 5 3-day weekends between then and now. My to do list is daunting.

I took a spare oil pan, welded a plate and stud on it.
This oil pan bolts to floor jack, getting the picture :)

I can drop a short block with head/intake/exhaust
still in car. Jiffy shortblock swap's! I went thru 4
shortblocks (old used and stock) a few years back
and got tired of pulling all the BS up top, block drop's
right out with head/trans upported above!

Hey Russ I'm currious what supported the head and intake when you did your "Jiffy shortblock swap"?

I am going to guess at 2x4's and chain or tie downs.

if you were able to get the piston back upto the sleeve, you'd never get a ring compressor onto the piston and in place from underneeth, not enough clearance. so, Pull the heads and do it that way.

crank bearing towers are in the way...
