Need to know if a 1.9 Escort cyl head will interchange with a 1.6 Escort--the 1.6 is carb[1984]. the 1.9 is EFI [1990], will use all the carb set-up on the EFI head if possible--need to know before I pull the head at the wrecking yard in this cold  weather---Thanks Bob

will kinda work but you may run into problems with compression ratio and bolt up for the intake/exhaust

had to dig up some old info...
if its a hemi comb chamber it is a direct bolt on,
just remove the fuel pump block off plate on the 90

Throw that Escort engine away and put a 2.3 HSC from Tempo. Will bolt to the bellhousing, and if you have a factory header on the 1.6/1.9, your downpipe will bolt onto the 2.3. Done this swap a few times, once in my 86 GT. I used the original 1.9 computer, injectors, had to modify the front motor mount a bit, and modify the injector harness a bit also. That car run consistent 16.8 - 16.9 in the quarter at 80 mph. Seems slow now but was a second faster than any other stock Escort at the track. Also, with the cast iron head, in block cam, no more problems!

I'm with you there. Thats a good engine combo.. I always liked the escorts. They were cheap good on gas and could take a beating!

That ranger engine is an over head cammer, has a different bell housing bolt pattern.:(

Iv'e just been informed that the 2.0, 2.3 have the same bellhousing pattern. If I knew that 10 years ago, I would have put an over head cammer in my GT.

So that 2.3 Ranger engine might just accidently bolt to the 1.6, 1.9 bellhousing?:eyebrows: Bob

Supposedly it will, but the 2.3 ohc is longer, will interfere with the frame rail on the one side... pm 22mopar for more info...
