my core support for my 89 daytona shelby is cracking everywhere!!! i'm gonna try to find a junk front end to use. my ? is.... is there going to be a good chance most of the daytona core supports i find to be cracked also? is this notorious? can i hack off the one i have and fab another to it from another car that could be stronger? i plan to see alot of autocross in this car so i want strong engine mounting points. any help would be appriciated. thanks!!

why dont you just fab up a nice rollcage type support. it would be a lot stronger and look really cool if you do it right.

I've heard of firewalls cracking a lot, but not core supports. Mine has had a rafter board dropped on it, been pounded into a neon, smeared a badger, smacked into countless concrete parking blocks (whatever you call them) and curbs, and been completely exposed to the elements for half a decade. No problems yet.

has anybody ever seen that whole front fiberglass clip that they sell for the daytona? i was thinking of fabbing that to my car and save a butt load of weight at the same time. all while under it is a fabbed core support.

has anyone ever tried tubes from the firewall to the frame rails to stiffen the front half?

thanks

I caged my car and stiffened it. fiberglass offeres no weight savings on the fenders. gutt the structor from the hood to save 2#, take out the fiberglass header panel, remove front bumper and replace with .080" 1½"dia tubing

so its possible to remove the whole core support and use braces and tubing instead, you think. i just want to stiffen up the front end without adding weight. would be cheaper and easier to just find another front clip, but that means i have to get off my --- lol

just cut off everything forward the strut towers, use rollcage tubing and your done. it doesn't take a genious to do this job, just someone that is a do'er and not an internet playing wannabe

well i'm a master bmw tech for 5 yrs, team leader, mentor. ask me anything about bmws i know what to do. i know a little about fwd mopars! i'm a diagnostic specialist and a parts replacer, not a fabricator or welder.

in other words, i'm a doer not an internet playing wannabe. :thumb:

Look up structural foam. It's one way to stiffen the structure without adding MUCH weight. I plan on trying it sometime.
