i removed mine (i have no idea if it is the original one) and it is stamped 195 degrees. i went to the local dodge dealer and he ran the 1986 part number, he showed a thermostat in stock, pulled it and it also was stamped 195 degrees.

is that the correct open temp for those cars? 195 degrees seems high. my 1986 Shelby GLHS Service Manual makes no reference to the thermostat other than to say "service part same as 1987 Turbo II".

anyone know for sure? thanx.

195 sounds correct. As far as I know every 2.2 turbo came with a 195deg t-stat. There are 180 deg ones available that work well if your looking to cool it down a little.

Actually, if you are not having cooling problems, keep the 195* thermostat and drill the 1/16 hole at the top of it. If you keep the temps up a bit you'll get better gas mileage and you won't have to worry about the head getting "shocked" when you have the 'stat open. Also, you will not have to worry about inconsistencies with the temps in the head...

195 is the OEM temp... and pretty cool by today's standards. Most new cars come with 200+ stats.

If you live in a hotter climate, the 180 with the small hole keeps the temps down and reduces detonation. I usually run the 195 in the winter and 180 in the summer but since I put the condenser in front of the rad, I run the 180 in all time as it runs alot hotter, it just takes alot longer to warm up when its cold out, brrrrrrrr.

You're running a TU cal correct? Doesn't your calibration have revised fan temps?

Mario no my TU cal has the stock fan on-off settings...and the car always runs right where it should be temp-wise even though i only drive it in the warm/hot weather so looks like a new 195-er is what i need to use.
