Wow that is a beautiful Duster. I toyed with the idea of a TT 400 for mine but started thinking stroker since the block I have needs a rebuild anyways and strokers aren't that much more. On the other hand, I wonder if a 512 stroker would like boost? hehehe

+15 on more pics and info!!!! :D

Sweet!... how much boost? whp? 1/4 mile?

TT440
01-10-2007, 09:22 PM
Didn't get the car finished till the end of the summer so only made it out for one afternoon at a local 1/8th mile track. Due to a malfunctioning boost controller 2 passes were made at 24 pounds of boost:confused: =full track burnouts, after disconnecting the controller and running on wastegate springs only ( 7pounds ) the car ran the equivalent of a 10.55 1/4 on pump gas. Hoping to step up to around 13-15 pds and run in the mid 9s. I dont see why it won't make between 800 and 1000 horsepower at least once lol

Where did you find those turbo headers? Or...did you fab them yourself?

I have a '67 Barracuda that initially will get a mildly worked 440 (approx 500 crank hp)from my old '68 Chrysler 300. But, later on, would love to turbo it.

What have you done for mainline work on the block? ie: caps?

Heads?

Keep the pics and info coming.... and also... bring your turbo V-8 friends over to here as well:thumb:

Headers were made in house, actually very little has been done to the block just arp main studs. The shortblock is basically our old nitrous one with the exception of adding 440source h-beam rods after a ly kicked out on the dyno. Ross pistons and a custom comp cam solid finish it off.

Thats just plain bad a$$.:thumb: I've always been partial to Dusters. Almost got one for my first car back when. Was a rust free 73 318 car for 3000. couldn't get a loan though. My mom bought one new in 74 and it was our family car till it met its maker in the mid 90's when some lady rolled right in front of my dad and wouldn't move. He said he was like 100 ft' away and hit his brakes hard(drums all around, doh! skidding for a while) and this lady was so oblivious he nailed her square in the middle pushed the car through the intersection lost it and the car kept going for another 100 yards cause it knocked him clear in the passenger side.. luckily it was a nice clear run off of a clearoff bean field. Some people! I hope to find one one day I can afford. Good luck with er.:)

Hey, awesome car. Regina guy here too but I of course play with half the cylinders and half the turbos. You better bring that up to SIR in spring because I know I'll be there! I'm on 306 too but don't post often.

Adios!

Yep will be at the first weekend at sir and might even sneak up for a street legal friday before that just to make sure everything is working right. Just wiring in a new digital 7 from msd and an E-01 from greddy so there will be lots of things to iron out before the first race. Thanks for the compliments guys. ROB

Your twin turbo Duster is amazing!!! I am looking to do twin remote mounted turbos on my New Yorker.

With its low compression '74 440, I figure it would be a natural for some boost! What size turbos are you using? They look much bigger than the T3/T4s I was thinking of trying.

Thanks! Fleckster the turbos are T-70s from master power. Made quite a few changes over winter just trying to get it together for our local car show and then its off to the chassis dyno and then the track. Hopefully theres a 9 in there.

Finally made it to the track for some easy test runs on the weekend. Car went 10.32 at 135 mph on 9 pounds. Licensing and chassis certification at the next event as well as a little more boost hoping for 9.80 at 140 then run all out at our local fastest street car shoot out in aug. Updated motor pic below our painter wanted to try his hand at those realistic flame jobs turned out great.

Another update, spent the weekend at the track making licensing passes upped the boost a bit and the car went 9.9 at 140 unfortunately it has begun to bend pushrods with the higher cylinder pressures:confused: our engine builder figures the exhaust pushrods are the weak link so some new smith brothers will be our next step.

Awesome! I love a good clean engine bay, and I love an engine bay that's a work of art even more! (check out my engine bay, it shows, lol). That air brushing looks really cool, and the rest of the engine is very nice and clean looking as well.

The exhaust valves may be floating because of exhaust pressure blowing them open. Up your seat pressure on your springs and try it.

Check your valves. If you've bent pushrods, then they crashed the pistons. Unless you have cheap springs which I'm told at certain frequencies will lock up due to poor harmonics and act like a solid spring.

Heads are off no sign of contact anywhere, going to shim springs 50-60 thou and try the better pushrods. Moparzrule the headers were built in our shop couldnt find anything close that might work. Also dropping down to 3.91s to lower the rpms, hoping to run close to 150 next time out:eyebrows: A small adjustment in the boost retard curve picked up 1.5 tenths in the 60 i think we are heading in the right direction.

Yeah sorry I saw you said that on page 2 I think, sometimes I can't read LOL.
What gears are you running now, 4:56's? 4:10's?
What valve springs are you running? Maybe I'm just having a brainfart here but wy would shimming the springs help with the pushrods? I understand if you were having valve float...???

TT440
07-15-2007, 02:58 PM
Current gear is 4.30, springs are isky 8005 and the shimming is just a preventative move to prevent float. Springs are matched to a cam this size n/a but with boost presssure on the back of the valve working against the spring they might need a little help.

Last update for the season went to our local street car race and lost in the first round to a holeshot:mad: but the car went 9.5 at 144 so my initial goals have been reached. Time to start wrenching spring is only 8 months away lol
