I paid 500 for a very nice professional installation with a VG quality top. I also helped with it to learn how. It is very time consuming but not especially difficult, and goes much better with a powerful staple gun (hydraulic or equivalent).
Convertibletopguys provides an installation quide with their tops, and their tops are pretty good for the money.
If you are going to DIY, remember this:
Don't do it outside this time of the year (up north). The top material will not stretch properly. It may take longer than one day anyhow. Heated garage is best, and let the car get to room temp.
Read the instructions many times first, and take pics when the old one comes off.
Search the archives at TD and other sites for good info and read (common theme here - read).
Beg borrow or buy/rent a good quality stapler.
Go to the JY first and practice disassembly there.
I've done a couple now, and it gets easier. Good luck.

They were asking $1500. Don't know how solid they are on that price. I may stop by there today. I was thinking about going to the machine shop.

I purchased a new top for my 89 Dakota convertible off Ebay for $350.00 which was the top of the line top.
I had it installed by a local reputable interior shop for $300. He did a GREAT job, PLUS if there are any problems down the road, he will service it .

I just got one for my shadow for $50 plus $15 shipping on an ebay store bid. I think he had some for K-verts too. Check it out.
