What do you get when you cross a RAMpage with a daytONA? The initial inspection looks doable. Will take some tweaking, though.

Of course, the Rampage hood doesn't mate up with the Daytona nose. Furthermore there isn't the prominent bulge in the 'Page hood. Sooooo....

http://i223.photobucket.com/albums/dd270/mpgchris/HoodInstalled1.jpg

Trim & weld the Daytona hood skin to the Rampage hood. Yes there was a bit of surgury needed at the back of the bulge to get it to fit.

Start by removing the reinforcement rib from the underside of the skin.

http://i223.photobucket.com/albums/dd270/mpgchris/CuttingSkinWeb2.jpg

After the skin has been removed and cleaned, time to measure for trimming.

http://i223.photobucket.com/albums/dd270/mpgchris/OverlayWeb1.jpg

http://i223.photobucket.com/albums/dd270/mpgchris/OverlayWeb2.jpg

Of course the bulge is too big

http://i223.photobucket.com/albums/dd270/mpgchris/CutBulgeExcessWeb1.jpg

Which required some sectioning and welding.

http://i223.photobucket.com/albums/dd270/mpgchris/WeldedBulgeWeb1.jpg

Welded together it looked like this.

http://i223.photobucket.com/albums/dd270/mpgchris/RoughedInBulgeWeb1.jpg

With a little smoothing, like this.

http://i223.photobucket.com/albums/dd270/mpgchris/SmoothedBulgeWeb1.jpg

I haven't been able to final sand it due to cold damp weather. It just gumms up the paper.

Great project. i love pickups and i love Daytona's.

Sometimes i wish i was an Aussie or a South African since almost any car you can think of, they have as a pickup. then i thank the lord I'm not, and just wish i could have their pickups.

You going to Shelby it..? Daytona Shelby style or Shelby Rampage style?

It will have the Daytona GFX, front clip, and dash. I'm working on the dash now. After completely stripping the dash down to bare plastic,

http://i223.photobucket.com/albums/dd270/mpgchris/DashEndWeb1.jpg

I had to trim the ends to shorten it.

http://i223.photobucket.com/albums/dd270/mpgchris/DashWeb1.jpg

I also have to properly radius the area around the base of the windshield.

VW Sundown Orange. I've only ever seen this color on the New Beetles. The GFX will be 01 Dodge [?] Gold; like was found on the Intrepids & minivans. The interior is a brown - tan combo.

Quick tech tip on the vinyl paint/dyes.

To dull it down a bit to a satin sheen you can use 3M Scotchbrite pads or really fine steel wool after about a week of drying depending on humidity levels.

Mike, I love the project and the hood but honestly (not that you give a sh!t what I think but I'm feeling compelled to say something anyway) the contrasting colors on the dash remind me of the dozens of Ricer throw away cars that I've found in the J-Yards:( I'm not a fan:confused:

the lower tan looks fine, especially if the lower doors are tan and the upper brown and the rest of the interior tan, but the dash bezel and hvac grilles and center hvac surround should be black.

Brian, that is almost exactly what I initially visualized. The problem I ran into is there is no clean dividing line. Your Subie has a belt line that would make a clean color cut. The L-body dashes have a clean cut. The 3G Daytona dash does not. The good news is that if I decide I really don't like it, I have 2 sets of everything so I can try again. For now, I'll see how it looks in the vehicle with the rest of the interior pieces. As a stand-alone, it will look different than in environment.

I would just respray the dash "hood", the radio trim and the vent trim in the dark brown. maybe black for the radio trim.

that would tone down the contrast a bit.

i love brown and tan dashes. so soothing. i have/had three cars with that combo. my vw golf i had in college, my subaru and my new free neon. :)

Yes on the respray. Brown is great. Thinking about the de-gloss procedure, not sure yet. I have in fact resprayed the majority of the pieces already. They need to dry for a day or two before I begin mocking things up. The last couple of nights I've been playing "Mopar 318", getting the new shifter boot and console lid covers done (not that I'm as good as he is). Might still be another day or two on them, though.

Don't know if I posted this before or not, but here is one of the seat covers I've been working on for ...... 3 or so years.

Sounds cool. The cover looks good. Console lids can be tricky. I design the pattern with stretch in mind so that the double stiching rides along the edge when the cover is pulled tight. I have patterns made for L-body seats, console lids, and shifter boots. Copies available to DYI for the right price.:D

Customer of mine wanted a dash cover made out of some vinyl top material he had left over from his Cadillac. Made it and installed it..and the noticed the sun reflected it and you had 0 visibility through the windshield.

So what I'm saying is you don't want a shiny dash or your in for some trouble.
