Hey gang. Over the winter, I was thinking about Polishing up my original Swiss Cheese wheels from my GLH n/a to look almost like a shiny chrome. Ive seen several people do this and they look great. What is the best product or process to do to accomplish this? Please let me know your thoughts and suggestions.... not sure what exactly I want to do yet but right now these are my thoughts.

Thanks! Jen

Email me (with suitable subject line) and I'll try to reply with several html webpages from a wheel site, now dead, that has some great do-it-yourself information. - Andy

I have done this on three sets of wheels over the years. Just BE CAREFUL.

Use quality jack stands, never work alone, and chock the rear wheels!

It also works better with a bare wheel, no tire or valve stem.

I did a set of eggshells using Aircraft Remover (to strip the clear coat), stiff bristle brush (again, to remove clear coat), sandpaper of varying grit (to get rid of the machining lines) and finally Mothers Aluminum polish to get the shine.

I had a set of pizzas which already had no tires on them, I put an old daytona spindle in a vice, then bolted the rim on the hub. My hand got tired from spinning the rim around but the wheels turned out pretty good.

A friend of mine did pretty much the same thing except he welded a bolt to the backside of the hub. He used an air impact wrench on that bolt to spin the wheel.

All I can say, is keep your fingers away from the rim holes. ;D

use a sanding block

or staple some duct tape to some scrap wood
