I bought an '01 Dakota Quad Cab 4x4 with a 4.7l about a month ago. It's got decent snap, the engine is SMOOTH, but at 4500lbs+ it's a pig and, of course, needs a little more.

Anybody got one? What have you done to it (if anything)?

Thought about a remote turbo under the bed, but I hear tuning's a BEAR. They respond well when tuned right, there's at least one guy with about 370rwhp with about 8psi. The chamber's more of a true HEMI than the 5.7 "HEMI", so they like boost.

I remember reading Mopar NOW! back when it was still in print and there were a few companys that made headers for the 4.7L. Kenne Bell makes a supercharger kit, IIRC.

If you really want to spend some $$$, you can swap some stuff over from a 4.7L HO (found in Overland and Freedom edition Grand Cherokees). The cyl heads, camshafts, pistons, and crank are desirable. The heads have larger ports (enough that it's a different casting), the pistons are domed for 10:1 compression, and the crank is forged. The software in the PCM is different as well.

The 4.7 is a tough engine aside of a few things- you might as well spray it! ;)

I have a 2002 Dakota Quad Cab, 4x4 with the 4.7L and Multi-Speed Auto with Shift-on-the-fly Part-Time 4 wheel drive. I'm not sure what your defination of "PIG" is, but mine runs pretty decent. I haven't had it to the track, So, I'm not sure what they run in the 1/4, but if you ask on one of the forums that I linked below, I'm sure someone can tell you. From what I have read, the intake manifold changed in 2003 and helped performance a lot. I haven't felt the need to make much modifications for performance. One of the best mods that I made was removing the stock air intake and installing a TWIN, k&n TYPE Cone filter. I love the sound because it is quiet most of the time, but when you get on it, you can really hear it taking in the air. This Twin set-up was on ebay, here is a similar one that is on there now; Item number: 230063112908 This mod improved my gas milage from 16mpg hwy to 18 mpg and I have got as high as 19.8mpg. Around town, I get around 12-13mpg. The DQC's are also noted for warpping front rotors.

Here are a couple of forums for the Dakota's that my be helpful to you:

I really love my DQC. If something were to happen to it, I would be out looking for another one and near exactly like it as possible, Including the 4.7L.
